College sports has become a caricature of itself, just nonsensical money and obsession with winning that has consumed some universities and programs and conferences. You got billionaire Cuban funneling money to buy titles and enhance all sports. Louisville with ridiculous amounts of roster money while the academic side of their university is in shambles. An insatiable, winless arms race where accomplishments are always tinged with caveats and not really real. At what point do P4 schools exit the arms race?

I've been very critical of Pope, and I've explained why, but Milan is, individually, the #1 player in the portal.Hope this is becomes official.
But some of you are acting like we are landing Michael Jordan.
He may prevent us from being an NIT team. But no one player is going to make us an immediate contender. I think the good news has been so abysmal lately that we may be wildly inflating the significance of some good recruiting news.

I really hope this is true. I desperately want to be enthusiastic about next season. This would mean we are potentially a top 10 team with him, but who knows how it all comes together. Just want to be excited about the team.

Yeah. We were a top 10 last year, until we weren’t. You give Pope the Monstars and I’m still not sure he couldn’t f it up.
Every single program in the country (and every single pro team on the planet) deals with pay disparities. These kids have dealt with being recruited over, losing minutes to other guys, etc. their entire playing careers. They understand that sports aren't "fair".
The idea that introducing money is going to magically screw our locker room uniquely is just not a cause for concern. Its the way the sport works now, and effects every program.
After Rob Wright and Donnie Freeman, gonna need to see the official statement.

Assume this is true for a moment, where do you think UK actually ranks in terms of NIL spending over the past two years. 22 million was floated around last year. This year seems like it might be more if we actually landed Milan. Safe to say we are a top 5 NIL basketball program? If so, we should have no problem being elite in this new era (assuming coaching is there).
I am not melting down. If you think this guy is going to somehow turn Pope's career around and make him become the caliber of coach UK needs and deserves, geez... I don't think you understand the mentality of folks like me. We know Pope doesn't have it. We know we are looking at another subpar year by UK standards - likely top 25-40. Bottom half SEC. Win only 1 or 2 NCAA tourney games at most. Am I excited? Honestly, not really. It doesn't change the underlying issue. Do I want to be wrong and Pope somehow to consistently give us top 5 teams and final 4 type teams? Absolutely! But that won't blind me to the reality of the results and recruiting debacles.
