Take solace in the fact that he lived a very good life. He was cared for like royalty and his domain was fit for, well, a king. Still sad though.
I hope LSU can get a Mike VII. The live tiger is one of the great college traditions in America.
Of course then I suppose mike doesn't require much training, unlike our bully, since he is basically just a zoo animal.
Stinks that he has to be put down but then death is a sad but definite part of life.
I believe that tigers are endangered in the wild but not so much in captivity. I believe there are way more captive born tigers than wild ones.
There's no guarentee they will be given another tiger. I think the fact that they no longer brought him to games helps their cause though. And the fact they built that palatial enclosure. They will have to apply for a permit through the Department of the Interior, if I recall correctly, to be able to buy and keep another one. Before, they would drag the tiger into his cage after baiting the cage or tranquilizing the tiger and park him by the visitors entrance onto the field and antagonize the hell out of him so he would posture and growl at the opposing team. Not something current vets at the school allow to happen.
He led a good life and was treated like royalty ... except he was in captivity. Better to be in the wild in Africa or India or wherever he hailed from.
That said, I hate to see him go. He's a beautiful animal. Anybody know how old he is?
corn dogs is not the proper diet for tigers, obviously.**
