And Memphis on the big stage tonight vs SMU on ABC.
Good job by ABC IMO.
Let’s hope the search team approaches Norvell and makes a great offer.

Pretty sure he’ll be able to be very selective about where he goes if Memphis keeps winning

Can I also take from this that Schiano may not be the next coach, like you thought last week

I expect he will be the Arkansas coach in a few weeks
I expected that last time when they hired Morris. But this time would he go there if they fire Morris after only two years? Also does Arkansas fire Morris after two years while they’re in the middle of fighting Bielema for the 7.7M he’s still owed. If I’m a coach those two things could be a possible red flag to stay away.

Why would he come here when he could go to 5-6 better options whether this year or next
He knows he would get a real chance here while the schools down south are moving towards firing coaches after only a couple of years, in addition the level he needs to reach to be a success here is much lower (delusional SEC fan bases all think their team should be challenging Bama and LSU)

Yes Norvell is my number 1 choice but don't forget Leach tree coach with a solid DC and see what they can do.

Frankly both of them Norvell/Dykes smartened up in hiring solid DCs.

The pigs or arkysaw are an abortion at the moment...any sane coach would be smart to be very leery of that cluster

Norvell would take us to that level we all talk about. With his coaching and the talent in NJ, we would be a serious threat in the B10

Mississippi State put up 54 on Arkansas today. Announcers said the MS QB was healthy for the first time this year.

If one was to rank P5 head coaching jobs as of today, would any job be considered more difficult and unappealing than RU? How is it possible for any of us to think we are better than any other P5 program?
Like I mentioned above if Arkansas fired Morris in 2 years and is also fighting Bielema for owed compensation those would be two big caveats to that job for any coach that has other options.

Point well taken...but we’d likely give a new coach a real 4 years...ark is likely firing Morris after Two years...

As I've said before, Memphis will pay to keep him. If he leaves, it's gonna be for a major rise in pay.

They are likely firing him because of program expectations. They have a top 10 poll finish within the past ten years. They can afford it because of the booster network they have. Both of these make it a better job. In the day of guaranteed contracts, these guys are not concerned at all about high expectations.

You don’t think a coach thinks less of a school for firing their coaches after two years?
I think you can get away with it if you’re a blue blood less so if you’re not and I do think it can pose a red flag to a prospective coach. Not to mention the Bielema thing.

My expectation is that the jobs which would become available to Norvell this year are the Arkansas type. That is what I am talking about when I meant the unrealistic expectations combined with a short leash (along with some teams in their division who will always be better) make them less attractive.

Now, if a place like Florida State fires Taggart after two years I agree that coaches would be jumping at that job. No reason they shouldn’t be winning big, and a coach won’t be scared away by the expectations or Taggart getting only two years.

Epiphany #1Nobody wants this job. Epiphany #2 If you can't get something to work over a 150 year period it's probably not meant to be. Epihany#3 See 1 and 2.

I think anyone in this thread watching tonight’s game, regardless of their feelings about whether or not we had a shot at Norvell, would have to admit this Memphis team is damn fun to watch.

They are calling a ton of penalties, yet they all somehow managed to miss a blatant face mask on an important third down play.

was blatant, but also the offensive player grabbed the tacklers face mask too, funny how they never call that.
