Players that go at the top of the draft get much more opportunity to play (bad teams) and set up for bigger second contracts.

WCS, PPat, and TJones all stayed an extra year, did not improve draft position, all happy they stayed, all played for very special teams. According to many here they were stupid.

Another year of college did not benefit several of their teammates so I do not blame them a bit for leaving.

And the whole myth that they are going to go from flaming out in the league to having a career in it just because they stay one more year in college going against awful college players (for the most part as far as opponents) is a bit humorous. They are either going to make it or not make it it regardless. You either have it or you do not in sports. Lyles and Booker both have it enough to stay in the NBA for 10+ years with ease. And leaving early allows them to get that 2nd year contract earlier, which is what matters the most in the NBA.

If they had stayed they probably would have went up a few spots each in the draft, and made a little more initially, but that is it. They may have put up more gaudy numbers at UK next year, but numbers are not everything. They are going to improve regardless, and probably will improve more by going against pros in games rather than college kids IMO.

Selfishly I wish they had stayed, but it is not about me and what I want. It is their lives. I understand that, many on here do not.

Those guys are gone so now all we can do is hope for the best for them. Here's hoping their careers turn out as good as the following Wildcats.

Keith Bogus
Don Wall
Patrick Peterson
Anthony Davidson
Michael two last names guy

Hopefully they fare a little better than Daniel Horton

For Lyles, he played out of position and was serviceable. Think about what he can do at his natural position? That's what scouts are saying. Why give them another year to pick apart his game in his natural position. The risk to come back is not greater than the reward.
DING DING DING DING DING! Someone gets it. This reply should be required reading for all who comment about the players' draft decisions, including Mark Dickhorsey.

DeCourcy is certainly not a hater. Good grief. Sad that it took a Mike Pratt tweet to change the direction of this thread. In my opinion, DeCourcy is the best college basketball columnist in the nation, always an insightful and great read for those that love the sport.

This notion that players shouldn't return, take the money, and always risk a career is nonsense and it's one thing I am totally sick of. Not that SOME shouldn't leave, but guys that we pretty much know are going to have greatly improved draft positions should return. Are guys like Blake griffin wrong? Because he will tell you, a good bit of who he is, is because he went back to school.

People are so insecure about our coach. this is exactly the stuff that makes this board Homers.com. No objective analysis but from a few.

I doubt very much if any UK player that has left early really cares what you or Decoursy think about them leaving.

Those two ACL tears suffered by Nerlens and Alex were the gorilla in the room for everyone. Especially Alex. His injury was so random.

Dakari would really have been better off by staying but I'm sure there are circumstances that influenced him to go.
