Why is this dude coming along so quickly at this point in time? Is Rob Dvoracek that much of an upgrade over Ruud? Was Mikai in Frosty's doghouse for some reason?

We need some feel good stories around here and so far Gbayor is one of them.

Sure could use a Joe Ganz II story on Saturday.

guys get buried on the depth chart only to emerge as difference makers all the time

last I checked "football coach" is near the top of the list of jobs a caveman would be qualified for the second he was thawed out

Maybe. Or maybe the light came on and it had nothing to do with our prior or current coach.

Was a New Jersey prep star who I was wxcited about as under the radar type, and then went milk carton. Agree with HuskerLLM I thought I heard at one point he was injured.

Doesn’t change that I don’t think Ruud was a great coach, although most of my issue with him involved recruiting.

I’m actually excited for what White could do if he stays for 3 years.
I won’t be surprised if we have some more defensive struggles when we start playing big boy teams this year… particularly if offense can’t help.

No. There are coaches who have some plays in the book and do the drills. And then there are coaches who practice with extra valuable tweaks, in addition to challenging their players. Dvoracek has the LBs playing well, and a number of them are seeing the field.

He made one open field tackle against CU that had me shaking my head. I can't believe how much open field tackling has improved this year. Simply amazing.

If we can get average QB play we’ll go bowling. Defense is getting there but we gave up too many big pass plays in the 2nd half at CU where WRs had 5+ defenders in the area but still got behind them.

We won’t have to play any zone anymore

Rest of the schedule contains zero outside receivers and zero QBs worthy of an ounce of respect

Man to man with pressure up front

It happens all the time. I did it so many times, not on purpose, I just always thought I was starting the right guys. Once I had my "starters" that label was hard to take off of them and even harder to put it on someone else.

FB coaches have done an amazing job convincing fans that they have to put in 100 hours each week to learn how to perfect the fullback trap.

The switch to the 3-3-5 might have helped a lot as well.

Rudd never coached atANY level before Frost hired him . Of course he is an upgrade over him.

Great to see Gbayor doing well, he and Lenhardt seem to be some real bright spots! Could Lenhardt actually be our next big time lineman. Can only hope!

But the left side of the OL depth chart remains completely frozen.

Ruud was an awful coach, so it's not hard to be an upgrade over that. Probably a combination of that and Gbayor has some talent that's finally coming to light.

The entire d-line has a bunch of young talent that has flashed so far. can’t remember the last time I thought that about the d-line.

I think it's as simple as sometimes the player isn't mature enough to handle it all till he is. Might to too late by then or definitely a tough uphill climb they can't or don't what to overcome. Opportunities do pass us by.

I can see us sputter first half Saturday and then play how we should for the rest of the season as a team overall.

Sad that MS makes 400k more than White

I am impressed with all of the defensive coaches, especially White. Gotta lock them up with extensions in the off season. I mean, two games in and we look like a different team on D and in a good way. With virtually the same players from last year.
Happy for the dudes that have really made the jump under this staff like Gbayor, Singleton, Brown, etc

I considered adding this when I wrote the OP but I didn't want make the post even more sleepy with additional options, such as: a combination of some or all of the above.

The offense’s problem hasn’t been all on the OC. Not even close.
I agree that it's not all on Satt. It's hard to have cohesive play calling when you know the left side of your line is going to collapse. Still, Satt promised an offensive identity that included more than token use of the fullback and more extensive TE involvement. Both are on a milk carton somewhere because we sure as heck do not have a (good) offensive identity.

Fidone and his roommate Haarberg seemed to have some chemistry

hoping we'll see a lot more of that this week

On Saturday, the run game was catching a rhythm in the second quarter and then the miscues followed.
Same thing in the Minny game. Every single time we seemed to get some rhythm some sort of miscue or injured player killed all the momentum.
