That sucks,another missed opportunity to get the fan base interested.Oh wait, with all the winning tradition, there's no need to go the extra mile to get fans to buy in.:angry:
Not disagreeing, but simply put...the basketball team unfortunately has such a low profile right now, it would be hard to promote and call it a success. Nobody wants something like that in front of an empty gym.

Put it in the Barn. Market it. Sell it. Make it a fun night out for the Students.
Why on earth wouldn't they have midnight madness???? This makes absolutely no sense on several different levels - Agree to put it in the barn.
Interesting point. What are you top reasons for them to have it? to me, if it is to promote student engagement that won't do much. If the team doesn't win, no one will want to be there besides 50-60 fans. Corey Sanders dunk might excite a few, but it won't mean much if they don't win in the regular season.
I have to agree with 118. Just let this team practice and get ready for the season. There'd be very little excitement among Joe Public or the typical student for an event like this.
Besides the die hards on this board there's sadly no buzz around a program that's on a 15 game losing streak and hasn't won an NCAA game since Reagan's first term.

I think it would have been full. All the kids have seen the Sanders videos. They would have want to see it for themselves.
I disagree I think there would be student engagement. This team has at least one exciting player coming in, and plus it's an event that other colleges have and really get up for, so I think it would have surprisingly nice buzz (despite what might not be the best year). You can definitely get some people in the barn for this. I think this also raises team morale and really helps promote the bball program - It's a fun night out. Definitely think they get more than 60 students for this - they may not pack the barn, but gotta believe you get an ok-nice crowd for this. Again, I think it's a shame and short changes the players who are there that they are not having it.
The fact you have to explain this is almost as sad as not having Midnight Madness in the first place.

IT'S ONE NIGHT! It's not about the season...Get DJ Yoshi in there, get some sort of a really cool raffle with a good prize going. Marketed right this could be a fun night with some basketball thrown in. Combine it with the women too. Have a fun scrimmage against them...shirts vs. skins. LOL
There are so many things you could with this at a venue like the Barn...dunk while jumping into the pool (is it still there?). Half court shots with students.
HORSE with students. Eddie wearing his old uniform. Tie it in with Dunkin' Donuts....come dunk with the new kids.

Season starts real soon. Inviting people to watch Sanders dunk is so counterproductive. We need the brown bagging it to work mentality. the 1st official practice shouldn't be the opposite.
One of the promotions should be a Half Court Shot Contest fundraiser. Ante up $5, make the shot, free tuition for next semester.

Done right (considering the rebuilding stage we're in) the BB part could/would be the smallest part of the event. Make it a party.

Confirms what I and some others have been saying in the thread already.
I don't expect to see a Midnight Madness anytime soon. Sad.
I agree with e5, personally. And I do think it would be cool to do both teams in one night (they should share the floor with the girls). Maybe some shooting contests between the teams. I don't need a full 40 minute scrimmage or anything. Just do some drills and a couple layup/dunk lines and otherwise do some fun student stuff that night. Not a complicated night.
They did it at the Barn a few years ago under Rice and hundreds of students showed up if I recall correctly. It was all part of Rice ramping up efforts to get students to the games, and those efforts were fairly effective given the quality of the team.

With potentially 7 new guys in the rotation, the start of the season around the corner, and not a big fan base doing lay up lines in front of a handful of fans at night just doesn't seem like a good idea.
