Mickey will be a serious candidate for half a dozen D1 head jobs this off-season

At least 3 will be P5

I stated last week when telling @Lincoln100 he’s a small thinker that ASU will be one and here we are

For being right all the time, I sure get a lot of push back. It is extremely obvious to anyone with a functioning brain that MJ is a rare and white hot commodity.

He will not stay unless it’s as head coach, nor should he
BS

I mentioned last week that some AD would be thinking about getting a steal if they think they can do it.

Schools and agents talk all the time..

If MJ is not retained at Nebraska, he will get picked up by someone else looking for a head coach most likely.

Those just automatically assuming he’ll stay on staff in a capacity other than head coach need to realize that isn’t a foregone conclusion.
It’s almost like the guy is just like everyone else

What confuses me about this thread are the number of people saying MJ would do well at ASU and it would be a great fit for him.

Uhhh....

Why? Why would he do well at ASU and not Nebraska, which has more money and resources and is in a better conference?

Why could he somehow succeed at ASU but not NU? What am I missing here?

Arizona St current AD is rumored to be on the hot seat although recently received a vote of confidence from the university president for whatever that is worth

this is the guy who fired a coach who had been to 5 bowls in 6 seasons including a couple of 10 win seasons

he cited that wasn’t good enough and went out and got his guy to take them to the next level …. Herm Edwards

they are going to let the guy who thought Herm Edwards was a good idea make the next hire and some here are feeling the pressure that Neb has to act because of what this ASU AD might be considering ?

Ray Anderson - ASU AD

asu has lower expectations so they can roll they dice on making a receivers coach a head coach..plus the "nebraska never had a black head coach" and "talking to asu" tactics can be seen a mile away.

NU needs a proven p5 coach, who has a clue on runing the ball and defense.
plus if mickey does well at asu, he can maybe come back to Nebraska with some years of head coaching under his belt..
something that I suggested frost have before coming to NU...which was ignored...blindly

ASU is probably an easier fix relative to expectations. Plus there's lots of talent in that area, 5 hour drive to even more talent in So Cal.

I assume you mean lower expectations overall, because right now I'm pretty sure Nebraska fans just want a winning season and a bowl game. So, our expectations are likely on par with ASU fans. Hell, all Frost had to do was win six games and he'd still be the coach here.

It's just an odd take. And by the way, Auburn fans are saying the exact same thing as some of you. Verbatim. "Auburn needs a proven P5 coach," so I doubt they make a run at MJ, at least as an HC. But at least Auburn has had more recent success than NU, who hasn't been relevant in 20 years. So I can kind of understand where Auburn is coming from. They are also saying things like, "We need to get this one right."

But the idea that MJ would somehow have great success in Tempe but not Lincoln is just bizarre. That would say more about the Nebraska than MJ.

asu may not even be in a p5 conferance soon, the last time they had a good team was long ago...(because frost went to stanford). really the only thing asu is known for is druckeness and point shaving...so the bar isn't high there..

Nebraska should be winning the west like every other year....we don't have time to mess around with a wr coach as head coach. a cambell, leipold, aranda.....middle of the road coach we need who can build a program, and have done so.. trev can't gamble on a wr coach or geting hung with a big name jimbo contract

This isn't hard to figure out if you've ever been in management.....Mickey is in the running, but he knows it's not a sure bet. Recruit like Hell and create leverage with NU. If they don't bite, take all these recruits with you because they want to be coached by you

Will you kindly brief us on how long it has been since you started a thread emphatically stating Mickey should be the head coach and that this post would be your absolute final word on the matter?

np, I started a hugh freeze thread, after the final head coach thread, because I forgot about hugh, and seen some folks mention him...I did'nt know alotabout hugh..so I felt he deserved a thread focusing on who exactly he is and what he would bring to the table..there was a vetting of hugh, which is proper due dilligence...

I was leaning towards mickey after he won 2 games but then came back to my senses...and had to come to the grips it was over indianna and rutgers..barely...the wr coach to nebraska head coach just seems like frost again..

“Cough”…Heinrich Haarberg…”cough, cough.”
He should’ve played a lot last year. Probably should start on Saturday

Showed more heart in one drive during the spring game than I’ve seen out of purdy and smothers combined

jury’s still out on Heinrich the Howitzer.. still just a frosh?

Funny you say that. My experience has been that when employees threaten to leave, I start thinking about how I will move on without them and then I am ready to be done with them and move on.

I don’t think he’s threatening to leave, merely leveraging his growing cache

he would be an idiot not to, just like he’d be an idiot to accept a demotion

One thing is for sure - Mickey’s no idiot

Yeah, but they didn't have any leverage with you. He's got a large part of the fan base behind him, amazing recruiting skills, and the Big 10 commissioner. Doubt your employees had anything like that

He is not an option at ASU...some of our fans are so stupid. If anything this stupid leak probably hurts him with his boss and any chance he had to begin with which was slim to none.

Might still be a frosh.

Nope on everything else.

Exactly. Same here.
