As I think another post mentioned, Michigan had a pretty disgusting recruiting stroke-fest program with the likes of Rick flair, jeter, Tom Brady, mike shanahan, Lou holtz etc. etc. now Jeter's site, the players tribune is posting profiles of these kids with responses "in their own hand-writing". I happened to check out this latest one on WR Ahmir Mitchell who apparently doesn't know how to spell the position he plays on the football team. If you're going to draw attention to yourself with all this self promoting explotation of 17 year old kids, maybe have an editor review it first - unless you're trying to make a statement about how low you are willing to go to win football games.

I wonder if it was this noisy in Palo Alto and we just missed it because it wasn't Michigan...

Like it or not, all Hardballs cares about is winning. IMO, that coincides with the vast majority of their fan base. He is being propped up as a revolutionary. The head coaches of EVERY B1G East rival ( OSU, MSU, PSU) have taken a shot at Hardballs in the last few weeks. Even Fitz took a veiled shot at him. This encourages him to do it more. Free publicity due to being an outrageous weirdo with zero redeeming qualities other than to win football games. Unfortunately, winning is all that matters, and he will do that in short order.

Michigan certainly does not have a monopoly on illiterate football players. I could not help but cringe when I heard the MVP quarterback from the Carolina Panthers in his presser. Since it was a replay the broadcasters could have at least mercifully cut the soundbite since the salient point had already been made with the first sentence.

OK, I know this belongs on the Rant Board, but are you sure you were not talking about a certain politician or politicians running for President?

The event raised over $120k for pediatric brain cancer research.

That's great, but let's not be naive here: the event was not set up to raise money for pediatric brain cancer research. That was as much of the focus of the event as the Boys and Girls Club of America was in LeBron's announcement.

Do the ends always justify the means?

Yes. Who cares if it's also publicity for the football program? It may be out of the ordinary but I don't have any problem with it. They have fun and raise $120K for childhood cancer research. What's wrong with that?

I make and read far worse spelling and grammatical errors on this board than misspelling "receiver".

Gotta agree with Glades here.

I thought it was a brilliant PR stroke for the Michigan football program.

You may not like Harbaugh. You may not like Michigan. You may be extremely upset by his recruiting "ethics". But don't think for a second that this type of self promotion will hurt their recruiting in the future. I don't like him or them, but I give him and them a lot of credit for getting the Michigan brand splashed all over the media.

Harbaugh's throwing what he can against the wall to see what sticks. When that is your strategy the results are typically hit or miss. I think the satellite camps and the Spring Practice in Florida is effective thinking outside of the box. I think the climbing trees and sleep overs are just silly that may do more harm than good. Although those on the Michigan board disagree with me.

And to me the signing day celebration while it attracted attention, it will have little impact. In fact, I think the circus while it brought some hype to Michigan, it took away some of the exposure regarding the quality of the class. Publicity or hype doesn't always equate to good marketing.

I think an Internet site promoting the signing of a kid to attend the prestigious university they are affiliated with by publishing a form he filled out where he misspells the very thing he is coming to said university for is a little different than Tom dick and Harry misspelling words on a public message board - no?

I also think it's a little slimey to charge a bunch of frat bros and suits to fawn over 17 year old kids coming to their school (and getting paid nothing) in the company of a few multi-millionaire celebrities.

1. I don't wish to be argumentative but, IMO, it's not a big deal. I see bad misspellings and poor grammar on college press releases all the time. I saw one the other day that amazed me.

2. I think it's a bit weird, too (who wants to pay to see jocks and pro wrestlers), but I still see nothing wrong with this. Nobody was forced to go to the event, anyway. I'd much rather see a guy who's an expert on Tachinid flies than listen to some washed up jocks who play with balls.

You mean a quarterback's press conference was full of inanities and drivel?! You're kidding?'

So nice of Peyton Manning to quote Camus while discussing the ultimate meaninglessness of the game anyway. We're so lucky to have been graced with his intellectual presence.

Also, Peyton Manning can't dance.

The event is weird, but arguably far less weird than many here knowing the names of the top 16 year olds in Southern California.

If the event becomes another in a long line of reasons for recruits to attend Michigan, it's doing its job. If it raises six figures for charity, it's even better.

I feel for other coaches, who now have to come up with cool signing day events as yet another dumb recruiting tactic. Recruiting is the worst.

NU should make a quality video parody of other program's recruiting antics. Make that the theme of the WaaMu show.

One has to actually feel for Cam though after today's loss. Do they teach more than just dancing at Auburn?

"Of course Newton sulking through a press conference should only endear him to Carolina fans, who felt the same way.

You can imagine the critics now. Newton will probably be scolded for not giving his opponents credit.

“It weren’t nothing special that they did,” he said."
