I know that some will yell at me for this post, but why did RU let Micah see action late in the game??? Doesn't this use up a year of eligibility? I think that Micah will be a stud in the future. but why use up a year of eligibility in a blowout? I could see it if it was a close game and another lineman was injured.
Thanks for the insight

Because he's going to be playing regularly by the end of the year.

Don't forget - Clark enrolled last January, so he's been in the program for the better part of a year and played spring ball.

They have until this Friday afternoon to submit a Red Shirt application for kids (before 4th game). The NCAA is not very strict in verifying the injury.
Many freshmen this week around the country will develop minor injuries and be granted a Medical Red Shirt year.

Most of this is wrong. First, there is no red shirt application. Players have 5 years to play 4 seasons. At the end of the season, everyone that played a game is noted as having played.

If a player has an injury that keeps them from playing any games at the end of the season, has not played in the second half of the season, and played in less than 30% of the games rounded up (4 games for football) they can appeal for the medical redshirt. The NCAA generally does not grant it unless the University can document that it was a serious injury. It is false to claim many players play in the first few games and then fake an injury to get the season back.

He is a 4/5* kid from NJ, who could have gone anywhere in the country, But. chose the home school to advance his educational goals, and play football. Operative word, "play." Doubt he redshirts. However, it's my opinion, he should build his body this year and, concentrate on the education part.

Maybe he is going to play more over the next nine games.

If he can help us get some conference wins, then he should play. With his high ranking coming, he seems like the kind of recruit who could contribute immediately.

We are 3 games into the season... Clark , Vretman,Heeman will see more game reps... it is part of the goal... to have depth upfront in 2018... same at linebacker...same at D back... Ash has not given up just yet much to the chagrin of some RU 's finest fans... there is some talent here we really weren't sure of ... let them learn like Schiano did in 2002-2003-2004...If we can keep this class for 2018 and add a few surprises at the end I think we will be much satisfied...

I loved how Heeman played in a reserve role. Had 3 VERY aggressive pancakes in a row.

Under appreciated player. In the blowout loss to Michigan last year he came into the game in place of Cole at LT in the 2nd half. UM lined up Rashan Gary across from him. Heeman neutralized him. Gary didn't get any pressure when lined up across from Heeman. He is turning into a solid tackle.

I forget who I argued with months ago but there was ZERO chance Micah was not playing this year....if he's that great he will not be here for 5 yrs. If he's that great you take the lumps this year and get him reps. The game slows down for him and next year he does much less thinking and more reacting.

Sorry bud but I was right

Heeman and Cole are two low ranked two stars that Flood deserves credit
for recognizing.

Heeman is a redshirt junior and is on the fringe of the two deep still not sure how you label that a find. Also, he was beat out by Seymour despite Seymour moving over from the defensive line.

I forget. Are/were you a Floodie? Not mocking, just asking.
But I agree to an extent. Flood did a few (very few) things OK. He did recognize a few diamonds in the rough. But he blew up the rest of the diamond mine in the process.

I'm not sure but I could swear I remember the poster LevaosLectures as the guy who famously was convinced that Charles Snorweah was a better RB recruit than Saquon Barkley

If you take a bunch of diamonds in the rough, some are going to be good. So I don't give Flood credit. Every P5 team in the country has a few good players. When Schiano took over Shea's crummy team they still had Nate Jones, LJ Smith, Raheem Orr, Shawn Seabrooks, Gary Brackett, Gary Gibson and Brandon Haw. So they had some talent and a few guys who played in the NFL. But zero depth and no quarterback. The team Ash inherited was a lot better but the schedule was brutal. The team was a AAC team not a B1G team.

This. He is extremely slow on his feet. Would be a sub if needed .

We all knew OL depth was an issue going into the season. Vretman and Clark could very well be needed to play significant time before the season is over. Better to get their feet wet in a blowout than throw them in down the road when a game is on the line imo.

I once called Flood a simple gibbon. Definitely not a Floodite.

You sure about that? It seems to me the book on Heeman coming out of HS was he had quick feet but needed serious development in other areas.

I am going by on what I saw at his limited time last year.
Could be wrong .

Flood is the gift that keeps on giving.[/
How long do people on this board blame Flood? Because The last coach and some on this board blamed
Shea for 11 years for Schiano's woes. maybe we can we can break that record. But for me that record
will never be broken.

Yeah, can't buy into the slow feet excuse. The kid was a basketball player, who became a football player. Now, getting to know the position/game, I'll buy into, but not slow feet.

My understanding is that Clark does have pretty quick feet, but some feel that he has slow ankles.

Nick, Flood gave us Cole and Heeman. That's the positive giving from Flood and is what I responded to.

But to answer your question, this board will blame Flood for many, many years unless there is a quick turn around IMO. If the program sinks into a deeper hole, that will be his legacy (and some will point out, it already is his legacy).

He's our backup RT. Probably going to get in the rotation when we get into the meat of the B1G schedule. Gotta stay fresh. Same thing I said about Lewis, no better game to get a guy's feet wet than this one. Now they got to prepare for a grind. No easy weeks from here on out.

The more young kids that play on this roster, immediately, the better. Bottom line. I don't care if we burn 75% of this class's edshirts.

Tariq Cole was 400 lbs and sloppy fat coming out of high school. He was a non-prospect as far as I was concerned. If anyone get credits, it should be the strength and conditioning coaches.

Good point. If they are the better of the bunch, or will develop quickly into the better ones, they should play and play often. Improved recruiting classes to follow (hopefully) will make us soon forget about redshirting some of these freshman.

Sure, but come on...the guy who recruited him when nobody else wanted him deserves some of the credit. He's a top Big Ten lineman.
