Remember when Cal said that there was a coach he told that if there is a player he wants he will get them and there was nothing they could do about it. Was that not Mic Cronin, and I am sure he loves that he got Juzang from Kentucky

Oh yea, and that’s why Cal got him the first time. Kid got homesick and obviously didn’t think he could compete here, so if he wants to feel that way, fine. Wouldn’t be surprising from a cuck like Cronin.

People always say “if that guy gets hired here my fan hood will stop.” Well, Mick Cronin is about the only guy that I can think of that would actually make me contemplate that, but I know it would never happen.

If it were a player like, say, Bam, I’d be livid. But this is Juzang. Good kid and okay player but he’d be playing behind Dontaie Allen next year and would have not played at all as a freshman if Allen wasn’t injured.

I mean if Mic Cronin's definition of winning a recruiting battle against UK is getting one of our transfers... good for him I guess.

This is just not true. The Allen hype train is almost Matt Pilgrim like on this board. The kid tore his knee up a year ago and people act like he's ready to show up and be a 1st rd pick. Juzang would've been the best shooter on the team next year from 3 most likely and showed serious progression after Whitney left.

Please share how you know this as I think this is complete nonsense.

People here have inflated Allen into being some sort of superstar. When the reality is he was a marginal prospect coming out of high school (ranked in the 110 range) who has had multiple surgeries and hasn't played in 18 months.

And through about 10 games in his senior year was averaged almost 50 F'ing points a game. He was almost certainly going to surge up the rankings list until he was hurt.

Not a 1st round pick but better than Juzang. See, you dont really have any basis for your doubt of Allen. Players come back 100% from ACL's these days. Allen is a better shooter and scorer than Juzang. You'll soon see.

We’ve seen on a division one level what Juzang was. Allen is coming off a season ending injury and we have yet to see him play on this level. People are killing me with these high expectations of him. I guess it’s their way of dealing with Juzang leaving. Let’s wait and see, huh? I’m rooting for Allen and I hope he is amazing, but I’m also realistic. He could be amazing and it take a year or two to develop coming off that injury.

UCLA got Juzang, not that little weasel, Cronin. Campus is 10 minutes from his parents house. He would have gone there if Bozo coached there. Oh, he does.

I am higher on Allen than most but I agree with you. Any fans putting Allen ahead of Juzang at this point are wishful thinking and/or have sour grapes. We knew we had a decent player in Juzang. We THINK we have a decent player in Allen.

I felt this way before Juzang left. I don't expect the second coming, from watching as much as I can, I think he has a better skill set than Juzang, simple as that. I also think he was grossly under ranked because he played in relative obscurity and then had his injury. Juzang was grossly over ranked.

Allen was a beast before his injury, he went from pretty much (unknown) though Justus was visiting him early. He started shooting up in the rankings, because he started getting noticed on the aau circuits. If he played in a bigger area, good chance he was at least a top tier four star. If he fully rcovers from his injury, you guys are gonna be surprised. I think we get him for multiple years because he loves UK but he could be an SGA type surprise for some of you. He was recruited, because of talent not to be our token Kentucky player. He if he has a full recovery, he will have a real shot at the NBA. He is probably gonna be the most pure scorer we have had and has a high motor. He isn't gonna be a guy who can't get minutes, he is gonna be in the rotation. He is from my hometown and I was a college athlete, it's hard to get attention in that small town. Those who pay attention to rankings (which I watched his, because he is from my hometown), he was climbing like crazy. There were multiple articles (pre-injury) discussing how there was a good chance he would be in the top fifty, on his current trajectory. So let's all wait and see but the kid is talented and can play and he may not be a quick NBA jump, even when he blows up. This is a kid you want who dreamt about playing at UK, not the NBA first.

I don't know how good Allen will be. But I know how ordinary Juzang is. He's a set shooter. Can't create a shot. Can't defend. Not especially athletic. Not especially quick. Shot 32 percent. In his very best game, against Florida, not only was it crystal clear how much better Maxey and Quickley were, it was crystal clear how much better Scottie Lewis and Andrew Nembhard and Tre Mann and Keyonte Johnson were.

What are the chances Mintz will contribute more this year than Juzang would have, assuming both are healthy? 100 percent.

he didn't pick UCLA for Cronin's track record of getting guys to the league...that is for sure

I expect Juzang will be a star in the Pac 12. Not a knock on Cal. He's practiced against best talent in college basketball. Got a year of the best coaching. Now he's going to the minor leagues. He'll be like Wiltjer or Charles Matthews. In the future some will moan about what he could have been. He's on a different path. Better numbers, less pro success, with no hope of a championship

I agree it is a bit presumptuous, but I don't know that DA is over hyped. The kid was averaging like 50ppg in high school and blew up over summer before Senior year. He can shoot the ball for sure.

Also, most importantly- he is a Kentucky kid and history says we need a Kentucky kid contributing to win a Natty.

I was excited about both Allen and Juzang next year.

I think Allen has more upside. He was one of the better scorers in the country as a senior. He was on pace to break the state scoring record before he got hurt. He was dominant during the aau circuit. He was rated lower however, I think, because he played on the under armor circuit almost exclusively.

He’s a bit slow laterally. But so was Juzang. I think Juzang and Allen were going to have a serious battle for who would be the first off the bench behind Clark and Boston. And really I think that’s part of why Juzang left. He knew it wasn’t going to be a guarantee after having practiced against Allen the last part of the season.

I’m not expecting Allen to come right in and set the world on fire. He’ll have to knock the rust off. But I think he’ll be a solid rotation player for us this year, to the point we won’t miss Juzang, and a star as a junior.

Seen Dontae play several times. He brings WAY more to the table than JJ. I understand people being hesitant but we can agree all JJ could go was shoot. And many players said Dontae was the best shooter on the roster.

I think that Mintz fills a need, much more than Juzang.
We have several wings next year, but we only had one pg, and he should be starting his sr year of hs. Now we have depth, and options. Sign up Haarms, and let's roll.

Thank you for asking my friend, everytime I go to do an update I seem to get interrupted. Or I'm just not really feeling good enough to put together a proper thank you post. So I'm doing okay, right now I'm supposed to be laying down but I think I'm gonna do a quick appreciation thread. Also, an update where that way you guys get to know a little more.
