I make a left onto Ave E here to access the green lot on the Ave E side of the RAC

Around 6:10
I was first on line to make the left with the left light arrow being red....... I waited for the green arrow for almost 15 minutes.
The light rotated around giving traffic turns every other way, multiple times, but not for the left

This light always takes a long time to become green anyway, so I thought it was what it normally does, at first

I was hesitant to run the light, there appeared to be a car which might have been a police car, tucked in the area where you would expect someone changing the lights manually, according to traffic backup

I eventually ran the light when I thought there was enough traffic spacing to do so....... I had gotten a ticket many years ago from a Piscataway policeman, so this added to my reluctance, to break the law and possibly cause an accident

Going to make this the traffic thread.

I sometimes take 287 to 27 south and then come into campus from the east so no traffic into the lot (I've done Ethel road also but then you have to cut someone off to get onto Rockafellar).

Anyway, with the second Amazon warehouse, along with the Fed Ex warehouse, Walmart, and Costco, that area is a disaster. Stay clear, will not be trying that again.

Odd. I've taken 27 south from Metuchen to the RAC (via Plainfield, Kilmer, Truman, Road 2, Suttons, and then Road 3 to lot 105, usually or sometimes I'll go to lot 101 by Beck) for 28 years and I've never had a major issue on the 27 south part of the ride, unless there was some major accident, which is rare after 6:30 pm. Or are you talking about traffic on the ramp from 287 to get onto 27S (which I don't often take, since I don't need to, but have only noticed that being an issue at rush hour)?

I guarantee you that from 287 (if you're coming from the Turnpike), my way via 27 is the fastest way on game nights 99% of the time, since I've actually timed many alternate routes (what can I say, I like data/analysis, and am a nut about saving minutes), including from route 1 and the various P'way exits off of 287.

Yep. I had the same issue at the previous home game. Waited multiple times before it turned green for me as well. Is it all the time or maybe just a game day issue?

The last game it turned green after about 5 minutes and a few rotations of the lights

this time, at least 15 minutes with no green arrow

I don't come from that way or park in green, so just wondering why not take Suttons to Hospital instead of the longer route up Metlars to Ave E to Hospital (assuming one accesses green from Hospital)? Is the traffic really bad on Suttons or getting onto Hospital? I've had that situation at a few lights before and I'll usually just go straight or right and then do a U-turn, rather than the very illegal (and more dangerous) left on red.

I will have to check that out

They used to block off the bottom access of hospital road, you would go past that to Rockefeller
They want green lotters. to come from ave E it seems
They started that a few years ago for the bigger games

The ramp was bad off 287. There was a cop working the light right where you come off the ramp, he was letting trucks come out of new amazon warehouse so seems like it wasnt the normal light timing. If you came from metuchen/27 then you probably missed the worst of it. The problem was once I got off 287 onto the ramp I was stuck.

I take almost the exact same route you take except end up on joyce kilmer into yellow then green.

If I'm early enough I sometimes just take 287/exit 6 to metlars/sutton/rockafeller, but they let the students come out of hospital road for weekday night games which jams up suttons since the cops just sit there looking at everything.

Was third in line at that light about 15 minutes before you and light never turned green. Eventually the first guy in line was forced to run the red light and I did too. No idea how many others followed me and the other two cars. Ridiculous. If I could just get on Hospial Road from Suttons it wouldn’t be a big deal but am forced to go to Metlars/Ave E. Not good.

yes, I used to go from sutton to hospital, they took that away.

I called the Piscataway traffic div this morning and spoke to a lady there and carefully explained what was happening...

If they were to get a few more phone calls maybe they will pay attention......

I hate to make a big deal out of it, but it is crazy to think you have to run a red light at a pretty big intersection, with game traffic all around

This actually happened the first game of the year. I came 18 North to Metlars lane but didn't turn right onto Ave. E. I missed the turn by mistake (I only saw the Davidson Rd. sign, not the Ave. E sign at the intersection which is another problem with that intersection) and then made a U-Turn to get back to Davidson/Ave. E and that's where the problem is. The left turn signal onto E skips repeatedly.

It's absolutely ridiculous that the left signal isn't more frequent - it simply encourages pissed off people to make unsafe decisions to go left on red against fairly fast moving traffic - especially given that they took away the more convenient way for you to go (Sutton to Hospital).

Are people also unable to take Sutton to Rockafeller Rd and make the right there, then go down to Avenue E and right onto Hospital? That adds about 3/4 of a mile to your trip, but avoids that light.

What time of day was that? I've never noticed cops directing traffic after about 5:45 pm, but yeah, have seen that ramp back up until then - but never after about 6 pm or so unless there's an accident or something. And you're right - I've never seen very heavy traffic on 27 south from Metuchen past 287, except on rare occasions around rush hour or if there's an accident - and even if I did, there are multiple alternate routes to 27 there, but if you're stuck on the ramp, well, you're stuck on the ramp. Sucks.

If you see ramp traffic for 27S in the future on your traffic app, you could always take 27N, which should have less traffic on it, and then do a u-turn either via the Brownstone (restaurant) parking lot or take the left on Bridge and turn immediately left into the professional buildings there, which has an exit onto 27S. Would likely avoid the delay on the ramp onto 27S.
