Didn't see this coming. Still not sure this is over though. If he doesn't sign a new contract with them, he can leave for free next summer. So this looks like pressure to force them to accept a much lower transfer fee.

Until their first game, he will get paid until that time. If he quits now, his paychecks stop immediately

It didn't seem the most likely outcome, according to most who report on or know much about the club. I'm not sure how I felt on it, except that Bartomeu seems like a total idiot. If he left now in a transfer at least Barca will get something long term for it. If he leaves next year for free, there may be better feelings but it'd probably hurt the club more in the long run. Happy to start seeing some La Liga back on Beinsports now too.
