For the naysayers. You know who you are.

December 7, 2015:
"I have a message for fans, supporters, administrators, players, basically anybody that loves this program: We need to create some positive energy around this program. It's going to take an extreme amount of work. It's going to take a lot of the right people going in the same direction."

“We're not going to make a lot of goals that talk about results with winning games and championships. We're going to worry about making goals that make us better tomorrow than we were today. That's all it's going to be about.

“The wins will come. Hopefully championships will come. But that's not my focus. That's not going to be the program's goal, at least early on. It's about getting better every single day.’’

"I want to build a first-class program that the university and the state and the people that live here and support us are happy and proud to say they are part of the Rutgers football program," Ash said.

"That's what I want at the end of the day. If I can do that, the wins will come, a ranking will come, all of those things that everybody wants, and how I'm going to ultimately be measured here will come. But there's a process to get to that."

"I think it's about being yourself, being honest, being straightforward, building a connection and really selling what you're trying to do, what your vision of the program is and what you want to try to accomplish. But it's about the people more so than anything, and the way that we take care of our players."

Nov. 20, 2016:
"I came here with a plan, came here with a vision," Ash said. "You go back to the opening press conference that I had standing right here in this room, I never told anybody it was going to be easy. It's going to be difficult; we've got a lot of challenges that lay ahead, but we'll get there. And I'm not going to make any predictions on when, but we'll be there; I can promise you that."

I support ASH...& think he is the best we attracted to the RU coaching opening

"getting better every day" is a admirable goal.
I wish I could but I cant point to a single thing that improved since Ash arrived
What in your opinion has improved on the field?

All to often last year I watched our kids fight hard but by the 3rd & 4th quarter looked sad and dejected.
Pan to the sidelines & the coaches looked even more lost than our players.

For me the only concern is the players quitting, which I saw numerous times last year. Wins/losses and recruiting will take time, thank Flood for that... but 78-0 should never be acceptable and the players quit in that game

Let's start with being at least competitive with Wash, or is that too much to ask?
Didn't take long at all did it

Take long for what? I'm sure I'm not the only one here who is disappointed in last years blowouts, you can't blame that on Flood, heck, he was more competitive than Ash was. I need to see significant improvement this year, by that, I don't mean going to a bowl game, but can we avoid 70+Pts losses? Can we be at least competitive? Last year was a disaster, there is no sugar coating that. If Ash doesn't show significant improvement this year, than he's not the answer. We cut our losses and move on. He has a chance to have a respectable year, let's hope he's the answer.

You can't point to a single thing that improved since Ash arrived???! How about virtually everything has improved since Ash arrived except for the wins and losses.

Problem is many fans only see wins and losses.

Uhm, with talent he left Ash, you can most definitely blame the blow outs on Flood. Anyone who doesn't understand this is either a Flood lover or doesn't know college football.

On the field, not much

However, recruiting wise:

2017 3 4-Stars 14 3-stars
2016 0 4 stars 10 3 stars
2015 1 4 stars (who transferred) 13 3-stars
2014 0 4 stars 14 3-stars

I'll bring you to my section so you can discuss this view with several hs coaches. You tell them they dont' know football while you explain why the team looked unprepared, didn't make adjustments, didn't get the calls in on time, were out of position more than what we saw with Flood 'on D no less', why the coaches were jawing at each other numerous times on the sidelines in obvious disagreement, .....I could go on

what improved?

why do you think he will be successful?

Facilities have improved

Nutrition has improved

Strength and conditioning have improved - Cole was clueless

Work ethic has improved - no more entitled primadonnas

Character has improved - bad guys have been purged, people don't understand the criminal elements that were allowed to poison the program

Accountability has improved - prior HC didn't believe in holding players accountable

Academics have improved - kids going to class again

Recruiting has improved - no more amateur hour with disorganized recruiting events

Relationship with NJ HS coaches have improved

College football isn't the same as rooting for the Giants/NFL.

...... the wins and losses will come. You have to give it time. Especially when we need to purge the toxic culture and program of the prior regime.

Shouldn't Floodies be out being obnoxious on Atlanta Falcons fan boards by now? It's clear they aren't fans of RU, they're fans of Flood.

HS football coaches in general are absolutely clueless with Xs and Os. That's a terrible argument.

Are you this dense that you didn't think a rookie HC would make mistakes and have issues...all while inheriting a roster full of kids who liked to party, had no discipline and had very little talent.

Seriously. Are you that dense?

Coach speak and nothing more. A speech tailor made for Barchi, Hobbs and of course, the professors?

Now if he had stones he would have said the following:

"My name is CA. In my previous position I was a D.C. for OSU and coached under what many consider the best HC in the country, Urban Meyer. As you know OSU has won numerous NC and I come to Rutgers with the intention of winning a NC in Piscataway. I will not allow anyone or anything to get in between me and that goal. I'm not here to babysit or placate the wishes of any particular individual, group or organization and that includes many of the people in this very room. With that said, allow me to do my job without interference and I promise you success on the gridiron."

Now that would have our juices flowing.

I just had to quote this so people see it on the thread at least one more time. This pretty much nails it.

Can we at least score? Or get more than 39 yards total offense against Michigan?

Really? A guy that hasn't even attended his senior prom yet. We have no idea whether he'll be able to handle the rigors of college life let alone be the answer at QB long term. I seem to recall the same premature enthusiasm with Oden.
Way more hype than oden, time will tell, oden 108 lbs lewis 230

I disagree...I see most of those blow outs as the result of being worn down due to a lack of depth. No defense can hold up for 4 quarters when your offense goes 3 and out every possession.

These blowouts happened because our offense was beyond dreadful. Even with enormous depth on defense, maybe we would have kept them from scoring as many points, but it sure as hell wouldn't have put points on the board. Look at the tale of the tape: against Michigan we had 39 yards total offense, 2 completions, 2 first downs. We had 116 yards total offense against Ohio State, 87 against TTFP, and 149 against Michigan State. When your offense is that brutally bad, there is no way you can throw any blame at the defense.
