Mentor for Frost

Steve Jobs had a mentor. Eric Schmidt, when he took over for Page and Brin at Google, had a mentor at John Doerr’s (leader at Kleiner Perkins) behest. Schmidt wasn’t initially keen on the notion; he felt he already knew what needed to be done. Doerr talked him into it. Bill Campbell was mentor to both Jobs and Schmidt....and for many others. Campbell was a special cat. Schmidt later revered him so much, he wrote a book about him.

Frost has Osborne’s tutelage...which is fabulous in my view.

How about adding Urban? He seems to like Frost, and he could stay close to football without the pressure. (That is, if he isn’t already decorating his office at USC.) Pay him a couple mil a year for a few years to add perspective and help with this heavy lift. (I know Frost doesn’t believe in consultants, but this is different. You invest in mentors to grow top shelf talent and reduce execution risk.)

Bobby Stoops?

All of the above?

Other?

Too soon?

Bobby Stoops.....bahaha. For a school that plays his alma mater(coached by a friend and a former colleague and coach of his), one that fired a childhood friend of his..... For starters those reasons makes this suggestion funny.

however, you have a point. An extremely inexperienced coach was hired for the pressure cooker Nebraska is, and despite the euphoria around the hire, we’re dealing with the decision to go the ‘hot prospect’, native son route.

A mentor would be beneficial

Eichorst's had a mentor and it was Barry Alvarez.. We all know how that worked.
Frost has good support from Moos and Osborne, I think that's enough.

You're still only in Year 2.

Have no idea what the culture of the program is, but it starts with that. Rebuild your offensive and defensive lines and close losses turn into close wins.

I think it would be a good idea to go share ideas with another program. Find a program that would like to know more about our offense and runs a great 3-4 defense or something we want to do and brainstorm. TO used to do this and I think Pelini did too.

Not as funny as Urban Meyer being paid a couple million to be Frost's mentor as the OP suggested. Julius Caeser is coming back to earth reincarnated before that idea has any chance of happening. That suggestion was epic! Good one OP!

How do you know Frost doesn't have a mentor now that he speaks often to on the phone? Bet he speaks weekly with Osborne among others.

Jeff Brohm settled down this week. He attributed it to his parents. Then, apologized to his quarterbacks, due to his actions at Iowa and after Illinois.

How about John Cook? He's on campus, can recruit at an elite level and has built a the premier program in his sport. He also loves football.

Dude, just own the fact your Urban Meyer suggestion was flat out idiotic and laughable. That was the point there-- clearly not your best posting effort.

Dude, work on your reading comprehension skills. It is obvious in my note that I was using Urban as an example. ...trying to stimulate debate...not bait a mindless crank to go off on my post.

Has a coach making $5 million a year ever needed a mentor? Usually they need good coordinators

Gotta read all the way to the end, sport. Like in school when your teacher asks questions after you read the paragraph.

Perhaps I should have put that at the top of this post to make sure you caught it this time.

Let’s stop this silly banter, please. ...uncool for the rest of the civilized posters.

I will Be Frost’s mentor for $260k per year ..

> bench Martinez for Vedral
> fire chinander
> tell your team to sack up or get the **** out - R. Incognito can help deliver this speech
> recruit more country tough kids and use them to weed out the pussies with lots of stars, on and off the field

I’d honestly tell Scott that jojo Domann pissed me off more than Bill Laimbeer yesterday and that he needs 25-30 more Domann like kids in the next two classes

Matt Davison. Maybe they could help each other on how they perceive the program as well. Matt is always calling plays while doing the broadcast.

Urban Meyer would come in and tell Scott to have the quarterback move up about 1 yard after the snap out of the shotgun during a zone read before he hands it off or not and it sucks in everyone and run crossing patterns every play and then his job would be done.

Urban Myer would tell Frost to recruit some thugs to get things started and some questionable character guys who are good coordinators. Maybe like Kendall Briles

Scott has the best mentor he could ever want right there in Lincoln and yet he still insists on reinventing the wheel and doing it his way. His way isn’t working out too well and this won’t end well unless he relents. What Husker fans thought they were getting when Frost to the reins now seems to be only wishful thinking.

Need to infuse more Nebraska kids into the program. Unless you’ve grown up here, you don’t quite understand Nebraska Football.
so, bolster the walkon program. pretty sure that has already been done. we need more TALENT, ON the field and OFF the field. Yes, that means coaches need help too.

He’s brought in mentors? Or actual coaches and coordinators?
He brings in former head coaches, like Sarkesian, for specific reasons. They arent specifically brought in to mentor him, but you'd be silly to think he doesnt learn a thing or two from each of them.

https://bleacherreport.com/articles...bans-alabama-coaching-staff-in-off-field-role

"
Former Arizona head coach and Oklahoma defensive coordinator Mike Stoops is reportedly joining Nick Saban's Alabama staff in an "off-field position" as an "analyst or consultant," according to George Schroeder of USA Today.

Stoops would become the latest former head coach to join Alabama's program in a support role, joining names like Mike Locksley, Butch Jones and Steve Sarkisian, among others.

As Schroeder noted, Locksley went from being an analyst in 2016 to the team's offensive coordinator and eventually the head coach at Maryland, while Sarkisian was an analyst in 2016 as well before being promoted to offensive coordinator for the National Championship Game that same season. He then spent two years with the Atlanta Falcons as the offensive coordinator and is expected to return to Alabama in the same role."

I thought he blew it at first too. But there was a breakdown by Blake Lawrence that pointed out he played that play correctly.

Kind of shows how easy it is for us all to blame the wrong people in many situations.
