Other countries are legit good with deep NBA and top international league talent.
US team is obviously also talented, but not as great as it could be based on who is playing vs not.
On paper the US wins. But clearly the talent gap has closed and that's why games are played.

US isn’t sending a bunch of fundamentally sound players and it’s been showing the past few years.
Iso skills don’t play as well in int’l play, especially when they call palming and traveling.
We don’t have a lot of great passers or guys who do the little things.

Exhibition don't meaningfully correlate to how well teams do in the actual event. They are totally irrelevant. This is only the 4th loss the team has ever had since NBA players were allowed in, the others all in 2004

Not true. They won 40% of the exhibition games but have won 0% of the games that matter.
The world has caught up significantly and with every Olympics the competition gets better and better. With that being said this is just not a well thought out roster but their hands were tied a little because the NBA season lasted so long and there were a multitude of injuries.
The 2012 roster was probably the best roster after the Dream Team and they had to work for it and had a very competitive medal round and a gold medal game against Spain with the Gasol brothers, Serge Ibaka, Juan Carlos Navarro and Jose Calderon.

NBA players play a less fundamentally sound game versus the Euro players. Euro players know how to pass, dribble, actually play defense, and don’t take 5 steps before they shoot. NBA players are going to struggle when they can’t travel and actually go up contested in the lane.
Not that it matters, but it's 50%, since they went 2-2 in exhibition (the OP was wrong on yet another point), and both of those 2 they lost they were without their full roster.
Maybe this team won't be like 15 of the 18 previous Olympic teams who won the Gold. Maybe this team will fail to win a medal literally for the first time ever. But it should take more than a single fluke loss (the first in 17 years) and a couple scrimmage losses (do people also read in to NFL preseason losses?) to get people on the ledge about them.

Yes the Euro players are also in the NBA, but they all cut their teeth in real fundamentally sound basketball. They don’t have AAU ball and just run the floor with your best athlete type of ball. They play the way the game used to be played with strong defense and fundamentals.
I’ll agree somewhat on fundamentals but NBA players play defense. I know that puts people in fits of rage but it’s the truth.
What are you talking about? Euro players have a reputation for being some of the worst defenders in the NBA, Gobert being a notable exception. Pretty much all the best on ball defenders are American.
Just to solidify your point. Not many Euros on there. Gobert and Greek Freak with a couple others receiving votes.

Now that the 3 guards from the Finals are on the team and a couple bigs were added last week, the roster is no longer imbalanced.
It seems plenty diverse now.

- most of the top pros on all the teams are in the NBA and play the way you complain about.
- you have an incredibly ignorant and idyllic view of how basketball is played in Europe. I am guessing you dont watch games or even highlights from the major leagues. Hint- the leagues are quite varied in how success is realized(heavy of offense or heavy on defense, physical or free flowing, etc).
- part of what so many complain about when they claim nba players take 5 steps is a move that is literally named after the very location you say is 'pure'. The Euro step has changed how the gather plus 2 steps rule is exploited by players. The side step and launching off the off foot is partly why people think nba players travel. It's a Euro step.
- Europeans haven't exactly been known for their lockdown D over the last 30 years. Obviously some have been seen as good at D, but tjats compared to many who have been laughed at.
Do you watch the US team in national team games? The high amount of passing is to the point of infuriating at times. They actually overpass quite frequently. Commentators praise them for the high level of passing and cutting. Layups are continually refused in favor of kicking it out for a corner 3.
Our guys do take turns trying to score...and thats often with last second shots due to the 3 prior players passing shots up.
