Depends. If you're there just for the game, get to the stadium 45 - 60 minutes before the game (not just to the area, as you'll need time to park and walk there, as the parking lot around the stadium is small and reserved for boosters). You'll have plenty of time to get into the stadium without a mass of people trying to get into the stadium just before kickoff. You can watch the players warming up, which could be fun for the kids. I would eat before and/or after the game. During the game, the lines at the concessions are long and the food isn't worth it, but maybe before get the kids a Coke in one of large Hawkeye cups - a nice souvenir,

If you're there for the pregame atmosphere, get there earlier - you really can't get there too early for that. One thing you can do is to go into the Rec Building (NW of the stadium, you can't miss it) and watch the band warm up; it's loud in there and something the kids would like. Or just walkaround Kinnick and enjoy the atmosphere of all the tailgating - heck, someone may even share with you.

Knowing where you're going to park is key to all of the above. You can't just drive toward the stadium an hour before kickoff and expect to make it. You won't.

If you are parking at the mennonite church lot, they don't open until 1:00 for night games. The upper lot is season tickets. Lower level you pay.Takes awhile to get in though because they don't open early.

Is the Finkbine grass lot still a decent place to park? I haven't parked there in a few years, but was reasonably priced & not a terrible walk.

Horse and buggy parking might be hard to find, so you and the kids might have to walk a ways.

For the last couple years we were going we always parked at Hancher. Free big lot. Cambus takes people to and from stadium. It's kind of a pain with the bus, especially after the game. If you aren't in a big hurry I'd suggest Hancher

It's much easier to get to the lot by taking the backway. Mormon Trek to Benton to Greenwood.

or George instead of Greenwood. Lots of parking in that neighborhood. IMHO it's the best "back way" into the area. Been doing if for years and rarely get caught in any delays. Short walk to the stadium and you can stop at Stella's for a cold one on the way.

George? I lived on George St. while attending grad school at Iowa. Nice little neighborhood and, yes, good place to park on game day.
