I see Moos wants to build something for men’s golf costing around $15M. Why?

If the AD’s objective is to be competitive on a national bases, get out of men’s golf and lower your men’s sports for Title 9 qualification.

Face it, northern schools are at a disadvantage in golf. Southern and western schools, kids can play almost every day. The best players are going to go where then? Northern schools can’t compete in this sport nationally. But the number one sport by all schools is golf. Why?

Sad we couldn’t keep him
Nebraska is at a bigger disadvantage in facilities than it is in weather
Over the years talented Nebraska players have gone elsewhere IE Hurley to TAM Reinertson to OK
Tewes to Ok state/Tulsa Schacke’s to Iowa to name a few and now Kluver
If Kluver was a football player this board would be going crazy he is a once in generation talent

if we are using competing nationally as a criteria then baseball should go or be gutted well ahead of golf

Golf - 6 final 8 appearance in the last 9 years

If you are the best golf team in the conference you can compete nationally. If you are the best baseball team in the conference, with the exception of one year, you have been irrelevant for over 3 decades.

Dollars and cents (sense?)....golf is a low-cost sport. How many players are there on a golf team? I'm asking because I don't know. 10? 12? Equipment costs and travel costs are low for golf compared to several other sports. I would prefer UNL to have a hockey team, but how much more would it cost? And, how would that impact the numbers (male/female) for NCAA compliance?

Anyone remember that big Fallbrook plan back in the early 2000s? That project's biggest pitfall was that the UNL Alumni Association was supposed to raise the money, and it was being headed by an insufferable gasbag who was way more interested in lining the pockets of family and friends than he was about accomplishing anything for the university. UNL eventually cut him loose, though Harvey Perlman refused to say why. Perhaps this time things will be in much better and more responsible hands.

Men's and women's golf could use it. The turf management program could use it (we are an ag school). Don't see why you couldn't make some money from public play or be semi private.
Think it's ridiculous the golf teams don't even have a home course.

Nebraska Men's 7's Rugby is going to National Finals, D1AA in Tucson, May 24-25 - maybe "Bull" Moos can throw a few thousand their way.

Golf facilities are poor, and way behind other B1G schools. There has been donor money in the past for facilities, but the commitment from the athletic department has not been there until Moos.

Since 1961, (54 years) there were 2 Big Ten schools who won the Championship. Purdue and Minnesota. The point is winning national championships are schools predominantly from the south and west. Yes women deserve the facilities, but in business you figure what you are and can be good at, then you put your resources there. Should $15M go for golf or football?

I don't doubt what you are saying, it just seems like these plans always get derailed for one reason or another. But like I said earlier, Fallbrook might very well have succeeded if not for Ed The Gasbag Paquette. Just about everything that guy touched collapsed under a cloud of corruption.

I don't think it is an either/or situation. Spending $15M for competitive golf facilities doesn't take away from the football program. UNL can do both.
