They’re loading up. If we can get Claxton back next year, that’ll be an interesting game in the Forum.

I know one thing. That Rayjon Tucker is a BEAST. Before last season he was giving some NBA players work at the Rico Hines run then watched two of his college game. He’s got a young JR Smith game where he can light you up from three or drive and dunk on you. Right now NBA scouts have him as a second rounder that can easily move to ge first round. I’d be shocked if he doesn’t get picked in the late first now that he can prove vs better competition night in and night out. If I’m not mistaken he is going through the draft process so it’s possible he does well enough to stay in and get drafted this year

Penny REALLY REALLY needed this recruit due to the young guys he will have who will likely struggle at first. Glad he’s doing well recruiting and hopes he develops into a great coach. Very good man who has helped many under privileged youth out in he Orlando and Memphis areas. I just hope he doesn’t get the recruits I want Cal to get lol.

Dam how many guys can KU miss on? When they whiff on Hampton who their entire fan base is banking on they are going to implode.

I keep hearing crap like Memphis is going to be a Top 5 team. Besides Wiseman who do they have? Aren't most or all their other guys 2nd tire guys? Asking because really haven't kept up with them. Penny is yet to play in the NCAA tourney so not too scared of Memphis. I would prefer guys go there than places like KU. Penny will **** the bed this year and the luster will be gone. Are people banking on them being really good because of players that haven't announced yet they think will go there or on who they have right now?

Cal had coached more than little league when he went to Memphis , and had a history of helping kids get where they wanted to go.
Little league?

Show a little respect

Perhaps coaching high level high school ball and travel team ball he developed a good rapport with high school kids, is beloved in Memphis, gave back to the city and supported the university, attending the final four in 2008 and living and dying with the team. The coach of Memphis at the time did fairly well such that a blue blood school the universally hated him and incessantly claimed he cheated lifted their skirt and hired him

You guys have Coach K and pretty much everyone else so why would this be different. coach K has done ok

In sports world today, lord forbid a classy acknowledgement that former multiple all star NBA payer who dedicated much of his adult life to mentoring and coaching kids in tribute of his dying friend is doing a great job recruiting to his alma mater. He is still fairly unproven at the high D1 level but we wish him well

You’ll feel better

The greatest thing about this thread is that even in a thread about Memphis, the most important thing is that KANSAS missed on another recruit. Memphis can't even be the most important topic in a conversation specifically started to discuss them lol.

That sounds great and all but doesnt change the fact he has to earn peoples respect as a coach. Please dont ask people to respect him as a coach because he helps communities. If he wants respect as a coach he needs to win a bit more than he did last year. As a person I did show respect, I didnt character bash him or slander him but the fact remains prior to Memphis he only coached in league that isnt even close to Div 1. He coached high school. If you want to make a troll account and beg for respect go ahead you'll just end up looking like a b#tch to me.

Coming over here to gloat and tell us how great Memphis is in a UK forum is idiotic but most people here are good at not laughing in your face and not making it obvious but dont be fooled into thinking your impressing anyone here. If you want Penny Payaway to be respected or Memphis to be respected then just shut up and start winning games, theres no need to come looking for acceptance or that you are somewhat relevant.

I didnt understand what you meant by we have Coach K. Are you even in the right forum?

Seems Memphis is still clearly butt hurt about Calipari.

Our fans are actively cheering for you to get these recruits. We want you do reasonably well. Which I guess, thinking about it, might be the biggest insult of them all.

Comparing Beard to Hardaway is a little extreme. Penny has been a head coach for 1 year with a washed up roster. Beard has had multiple seasons and recruiting classes to sustain success. Plus, you want to play the best teams you can, preps for tournament time and boosts resumes. And don’t worry about the TV time.. it’s coming.

Oh you just don’t know any better do ya buddy

What is funny is The grad transfer is going to Memphis which means no RJ Hampton! They won’t get anymore big time recruits either! Memphis got the only one they’re getting in Wiseman lol!

Mike Miller is going to be a HC somewhere in 2-3 years so I'm not surprised. Pretty sure he's big in recruiting too

Congratulations to Memphis moving up from a lower mid-major program to a middle of the road mid- major program. Remember boys, baby steps.

The people of Memphis are excited to have Penny. Good on them. We got some who claim to be fans that wanna run Cal off. My aunt and uncle, both teachers in Memphis tell stories that the students were so dumb they didn't understand that water is wet. Then I recall the CLOD and realize we don't have a lot of room for finger pointing.

So far, Miller is a lot of smoke and no substance. Memphis puts out all kinds of smoke and the fire just never starts. Wiseman is their main get, he played for Penny in AAU ball. Miller hasn’t done anything but talk and be talked about.

Hampton probably isn’t going to Memphis. Their little theory that they will have a “super team” thanks to Mike and Penny consist of Jefferies being their second best pickup to date, lol.

Again, wake me up when Miller is able to recruit nationally and land kids outside of the local area. Many Memphis coaches have been able to threaten their way to land Memphis kids.

Cal is the only coach I know of who actually went national at Memphis.

This is what I mean when I say Memphis fans don’t travel, don’t understand the college basketball landscape. Read this nonsense. They know nothing about how powerful other programs actually are in their state and country. Memphis thinks their special because they can’t become national?

WE CONTROL 8 BLOCKS IN THE ENTIRE US!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know former Memphis players who will tell you Memphis does nothing for former players. Our players are recognized and successful across the entire state, and countless return to Lexington to call it home. Memphis is quite possibly the dumbest fan base alive.

Again, I don't root for Memphis fanboy. The simple fact you think recruits want to come live in a backwards state full of backwoods type like you void of Cal tells me how stupid you are sonny boy. Most wouldn't even drive their car through Kentucky. Once Cal leaves it's over. Times have changed.

Both Kentucky and Tennessee have per capita income of less than $28,000. Education sucks in both states and crime is on the rise, especially in Memphis. Both states pretty much suck. One just happens to have better college basketball and football teams.

I'm sorry, I can't stop laughing at people from Tennessee, more specifically Memphis, talking bad about KY or any other place for that matter. Again, total lack of self awareness.

That’s just a stupid comment. Of course we will discuss little penny and Memphis as we are interested in the same recruits and we stole your coach (then you had our leftovers with tubby lol)
That’s not obsession my friend, it’s discussion.

That being said, you guys may very well be decent next year but I’d hold off on being to cocky considering Kentucky has damn near the amount of Final Fours as Memphis State has tournament appearances lol.

Say that out loud.
How the he’ll does someone from another board come over to our board and say we are obsessed?! Penny got a few good recruits but other than that he’s accomplish buttkiss!

That’s easy. The Memphis State fans that have infiltrated our board are simply jealous of our success. We stole their coach which they’re still salty about and ended up with the coach we fired.

They want our validation and acceptance

Basketball after all is a business, former head Memphis basketball coach vs former NBA superstar going head to head with 2 top 5/10 recruiting classes. Seems logical.
not logical until Penny proves he can coach said talent...until his elite prospects turn into NBA players and not on talent alone.....
