Bwahahaha, when has there ever been a Joe B Hall bashing thread on this board? Lying to deflect, pathetic.

Joe B was a piñata for UK fans in the early 80s. U of L had Crum making four Final Fours in seven years. Hall was losing to UAB, then Middle Tennessee, then Louisville. Thank God there was no internet back then.

He's the head coach, he can demote, fire, or hire anyone he wants. He demoted him because he aint one of his guys, he brought his staff in like every other coach in the country does. I'm not sure why Kentucky fans care so much since they don't hate Tubby.

he can do whatever he wants - he is the head coach. He can lose 5 or 6 players while recruiting DII players because he is the head coach.

Memphis fans have to live with that. Thank god UK fans don't.

I won't lose a minutes sleep over it. Nor am I interested in a long discussion with someone intent on defending a coach losing core DI players to transfer and attempting to rebuild with players who aren't as good. Isn't that what all Elite coaches do?

Eddie Sutton walked into a dumpster fire. Seth Hancock and other boosters ran the show at that point. Eddie was too drunk to fight them. He was a damn good coach, though. Alcoholism is terrible. It damn near destroyed him once and then a second time when he put those two kids on the plane that crashed at Oklahoma State.

I never have understood the argument that he was too drunk to fight the boosters but he wasn't too drunk to coach, etc. I also don't understand why the AD didn't do something like force Eddie into rehab? The guy was a loose canon and pretty much destroyed the program along with some out of control boosters. But, I guess we all have our own opinions.

In the early 80's when he was the coach, what does that have to with bashing Tubby 10 years after he left?

Tubby won a natty in 98, and had a few good teams, 03 for example. He also had several team turmoil years and could not handle elite type players. He also recruited players that were not good enough to play in Div 3. And finally, he chose to start and play his son over a much better player, Cliff Hawkins.

Tubby was not a good fit here. I am glad that TLT (10 loss Tubby) is gone. Nor do I think he deserve a banner in the rafters.

If they were not happy with the demotion they should've left before the season. The demotion was clear and the father accepted the demotion and the kids chose to play. Making a video saying "f*** Tubby" shows they are classless. Say what you want about his coaching skills and recruiting prowess, Tubby has always been nothing but a class act personally.

Does being a class act include inflicting Cliff Hawkins with asthma so he could play little Saul?

Does being a class act include keeping on subpar assistants just to spite the AD? Just using those guys to prove a point to your boss? How many of those assistants he thought so highly of did he take with him to Minnesota? Not a damn one.

As the years have gone by, my opinion of Tubby as a person has gotten almost as low as my opinion of him as a coach.

Tubby is the only underachieving coach to be labeled "great great man though" over and over. Why?

Tubby apologists way worse than Tubby bashers. After winning a title with Rick's players he was a bum. Single handedly caused the longest Final Four drought in school history.

I don't think rehab for our coaches would have been accepted in the 80's. It was still a taboo subject and most people cited weakness instead of sickness back then. The embarrassment for UK was probably too great of a chance in their mind.

You may well be right about that. It is kinda interesting that we swept the Sutton problems under the rug, more recently PSU swept the Sandusky problems under the rug and yet we are talking about MAJOR universities where one would least expect that to happen.

I was working on my 2nd grad degree when Sutton was the coach and I vividly remember the focus on alcoholism as a disease that needed to be treated as such. Yet, in our case, UK pretended it would all just disappear somehow? The result was a major disaster that was almost repeated with Billy G.

Almost? It was repeated. And with Rod Strickland, too.

Okay, I stand corrected. I guess I was considering the fact that at least Mitch fired Billy G before it destroyed the program. Had we not gotten Cal, I would probably not have said, "almost."

one thing that has changed since Sutton is the Lexington police.

Sutton was escorted home more than one when he should have spent a night in the drunk tank.

They have zero tolerance about that now and have had for quite some time.

Admittedly I'm surprised there aren't more Gillispie stories being out on the road.

Again why continue to trash Tubby? Wait, you're confused as to why I won't join the group in trashing him. Mob mentality.
I really don't perceive it as "trashing". It is what it is. Tubby has made his own bed and gotten very wealthy for it.

You're right. Carrolton was in 1988 wasn't it? That is when the drunk driving thing blew up. Before then no one had smashed into a schoolbus load of kids as far as I know. That was a few years after cable and expanded tv coverage made it a much more widely known event that started an outcry.

I started driving in '82 I think and I know all my slightly older friends and people I knew that were even older told me stories about getting driven home by cops or even escorted home while still driving drunk! It wasn't just coaches. Times have sure changed.

Tubby had to clean house...he won't tolerate pimp fathers and kids who lack discipline

he's putting a nice class together too...

Tubby signed Kyvon Davenport yesterday but the AAC offices are closed for Easter so it won't be 'official' until Monday morning.
http://247sports.com/player/kyvon-davenport-46036420

we have an offer out to JuCo All-American Chris Darrington...it's down to TN and Memphis (he visited his 'hometown team' Toledo as well but it's a two team race)

if he says 'no' we will offer Clayton Hughes out of Jackson TN...he visited this weekend, and made it clear that if we offer, he'll take it. (he had to go prep school even though he signed with UCF in 2016)

http://247sports.com/Player/Clayton-Hughes-71802

Tubby took the high road and gave the Lawsons unconditional releases and publicly wished them well after everything came out...instead of talking, Tubby and Joe Esposito went out and recruited their tails off these past two weeks.

for a guy who 'can't recruit'...he sure seems to be out recruiting.

No, he's actually not recruiting well. Did you hear about his lie to Heights staff? Knowing them personally, he is burning bridges. Memphis kids are looking elsewhere. Your team next year is trash. You might win 13-15 games if you're lucky.

Tubby will be ran out of town by year three and you will never return to face the heat.

Btw, is Tubby running more this year?

:joy:

Alex Lomax is taking an unofficial visit to Memphis today.
http://247sports.com/Player/Alex-Lomax-92337

Yea out of 6 recruits he could be pursuing he's contacted one. Your staff has kicked the can or lied to some of the others. Saul wasn't where he was supposed to be on several occasions and had staff waiting. That came from the horses mouth. You won't pull that crap here. Was he drunk? Did you check B street?

Lomax is probably going to Missouri anyway. Memphis is a mid major who never even sees the tournament. Going on half a decade. Some of these kids were in middle school the last time you even made it. None of them rememeber 08. None of them recognize the Tubby Smith name.

The end.

Missouri just signed their 'guards of the future' with Roberts and Harris...

that's why Tubby/Lomax are getting all hot and heavy...

It's possible. Hell youre going to have so much playing time it's unreal. But that's because Memphis is having trouble everywhere. I get you want to be optimistic, but you're putting way too much stock into Tubby.

For a hint, he's still pulling the same crap that's gotten him in trouble everywhere.

Putting Saul head of program interest. Did you know he screwed UK and played Saul instead of recruiting a PG?

He's having trouble with AAU coaches and handlers. Did you know that's what killed him here, and at other stops?

He's pissed off staffs in town by not showing up when planned. Did you know that Tubby made enemies with high school coaches at his last stops because he wants to deal directly through family only?

You just don't know what's going on yet. You will soon enough, but you won't come back to this board when it falls apart. Guarantee that.

Naw. You'll fume over it. I'll laugh at you. Hate is so funny when it's impudent like you will be.
Nah, I really won't , but laugh all you want, it still won't change the fact that Orlando is incompetent.

Oh, and I don't hate him, but he still sucks.

Oh and you do hate him. Man up and admit it. No one spends that much negative energy on someone they don't hate.
