I know there have been multiple threads on bbq places in Memphis but I couldn’t find them. We’re up here in Millington for a golf tournament for a couple nights and trying to find a good place to go preferably not too far away and also that might have the game on. Trying not to go all the way downtown if we can help it. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

BBQ Shop on Madison is my go to. I grew up in Germantown so I’m also partial to the Germantown Commissary. But I’d go to BBQ Shop first

Millington is a tough spot, most of the good BBQ places are south of 40. If you didn't want to drive into town look up Bozo's in Mason. It's nothing fancy but old school diner style BBQ as in chopped not pulled pork. Save room for desert as they have a case full of local made pies and cakes. It's honestly like stepping back in time they even shot some scenes for I Walk the Line in there.

Also Gus's in mason is a unique experience as well. Don't go for the service just get some chicken to go.

Avoid the Memphis traffic and crime. Drive north about 20 minutes to Covington and eat at the Bald Butcher. They don't have any tv's but good food at reasonable prices. You are a long drive from most of the good barbecue places in Memphis, but if you insist I would go with The Barbecue Shop on Madison for pulled pork on Texas toast (sandwich) and Memphis Barbecue which is on I-55 at the Horn Lake exit.

Be aware restaurants are facing a food shortage. Memphis Barbecue put on their Facebook that they may not have all menu items everyday. They don’t know until the food truck arrives.

What happened to Rendezvous? I haven't eaten there since the Liberty Bowl in 07'. I always thought it was great. Especially the ribs.

I see the founder passed since then, has it gone way downhill? Or has it always been crap?

Thank y’all for the suggestions, we ended up in lightning delays all week but we watched the games at a close Buffalo Wild Wings each night. Couldn’t have been more fun, met tons of random State fans watching the games.

I wouldn't say Germantown Commissary was trash but it wasn't that good. I think anticipation hurt me here....I built it up more in my head than it turned out to be. I think I did this with The Drover earlier this week too. Was good but just wasn't blown away like I thought I would be.

Tops is your best bet. Central is good. Out East, the commissary is very good, less fatty than other good ones but it is delish.

Accurate depiction of Bozo’s. Old school good.

I am going to ask this again. Why does everyone bag on Rendezvous these days? I honestly remember it being good, but it's been the better part of 15 years since I have had it. Has it gone downhill? I was never a fan of Corky's and Interstate was all the hype back then, but it just tasted good not great to me..

People from the Memphis area don’t care for rendezvous because it’s the tourist thing to do. But the past couple times I’ve been there, the ribs have been pretty tough. Their seasoning is still one of my favorite seasonings

Tough ribs would be a reason to not like it for sure... Just because it's touristy would not be a valid reason. So it sounds like it has gone downhill. Thanks

I used to go to Rendezvous with clients every couple of months. The owner of my company could get us seated as soon as we walked in, and had the same wait her every time. Never had a bad meal at those dinners. Never had a good meal when I took my wife.

I’m with you on The Drover. Thought it would be the best steak I’ve ever had. Unfortunately don’t know if I can put it in the Top 10. Now the atmosphere was awesome. So many State fans in there I felt I was in MS. Had it not been on a Monday night during the CWS, steak probably would have been better but I think they got overwhelmed with the amount of people ?

Their BBQ shrimp are awesome. I went with a big group through the seed company we buy from and sat there and made myself miserable.

Too inconsistent. Some of the best ribs I've had have come from there but so have some of the worst. The earlier you get there the better they are.

I don't know what you were thinking getting excited over midwestern food.
