I got my BS in 1964, and my MBA in '66. In that era, we played our last 4 football games every season against Bama, Auburn, LSU and Ole Miss. We called it the "November Nightmare," since we lost so many of those games. Older folks here will remember that. Younger folks, be thankful for every good season we have, and every win against anyone! Cheers, RocketCityDawg, IBBC

That’s the one thing that I don’t know that a lot of other fanbases understand, every good thing our fans get out of football, we deserve for we have endured over the years. And that’s coming from me, who at 38, has had some degree of a good football team for at least half my life. You older guys and gals that survived the 60’s and 70’s. Man, y’all are troopers if you’re still living and dying with it.

Don't forget the 80s. There were some clunkers in there, too.

No doubt, I just discounted those as they were a lot of the bad half of my 38 football years, even if I didn’t remember them.

Been going to games all my life....but my first real memories are from the 1980 season. Specifically, getting our asses kicked by Southern Miss in Starkville, of course the Bama game, and then beating LSU and Ole Miss. John Bond was the man to this ten year old.

It wasn't long ago we were painfully bad. People either forget, don't know or just need something to ***** about

We still had some great individual players I was acquainted with back then, Sonny Fisher and D D Lewis. Others. And we've had many others since then, until Dak, and now Will.
Keep the faith, and ring responsibly!!

I remember it well when I first became a State fan in the 70's and really hated it as much as Bama, Arkansas, Ole Miss EVERY November in the later years.

We have come a long way in a short time. We were maybe the worst program in the SEC during the 2000s. Less than a decade ago we had metal bleachers in the endzone that looked like crap. We have plenty of room for improvement but we also have a lot to be proud of.

I can remember going through what was called murderers row as a young guy until I was grown.

Emory in 1980 might be the only year We ran the table and won all 4.

For sure We were still playing those last 4 up to Felker's first year in 86 when sadly We started 6-1 only to lose all 4 while scoring only 12 points combined in them.

Finished in '63. We would go to games just hoping to beat the point spread, no hope of winning. Carl Walters was the sports guy for the CL. "Well State certainly won a moral victory yesterday. Lost by 24 instead of the line of 28." Then they moved most of the home games to Jackson so the politicians could watch. If they wanted to. Those of us who were at State on the Poverty Plan stayed on campus and listened to it on the radio.

I often read all the bitchin on here about our sorry play and the calls to far the coaches and AD and wonder if these "fans" just started watching in 2008 or have Alzhiemers cause I watched a lot of 3 win seasons in the 70s, 80s and 90s.

Drebin, thats the year I became aware of MSU football. Bond, Cooks, McDoyle, Young.....I knew all their names. I recall listening to Jack call the final minutes of the BAma game. I listened as Jack called the beating of LSU that year. I couldn't wait for the Sunday coach's show to see the video of the game. Good times.

My very first in-person experience with MSU football:

1969, Sr in HS, my dad, uncle and I went to the Houston game. 74-0.

I was poor, and had no choice but to go to MSU.

Just a kid. My dad had taken me to a few games on campus, but this was my first game to see in Jackson.

Felker, Freeman and Packer.

The Ole Miss fans were awful... just vile and hateful! And they really thought they were entitled to the win and were going to win. The fourth quarter was so enjoyable. Truly happy Bulldog fans!

And I believe there were two seasons in the 70's where Bob Tyler had winning seasons and victories over OM but we had to forfeit all our games thanks to the Jackson Daily News and Hederman.

Unfortunately, and as much as I hate to admit it, I was in the Astrodome in 1969.

For those of us who played football growing up in the 70's and 80's, there is nothing better than a perfectly executed no-look option pitch right as the QB is about to get crushed. See Rockey execute it to perfection in this video about 1:30 in. That one would make John Bond proud. Beautiful.

I think that what the feeling is that the current AD is fond of those days like his Advisor LT was… we need another Ninja not another LT.
