Somehow I got to thinking about some of the new stadiums that are being built in college and the NFL, and it got me to thinking what if Nebraska had to build a new stadium. I say had because I don't think most people would go for the idea of replacing what is currently there. Lets say though that some freak earthquake or something happened and it couldn't be salvaged.

1. Would you tear it down and build in the same spot? Not living in Lincoln I don't know what areas might be available, but someplace where there is more parking for a better tailgate experience instead of the mismash that there is now could be cool.

2. It would probably take at least 2 years to build anything, maybe more if you tear down and replace. Where do we play in those years? Work some deal with Arrowhead?

No, hears the deal if and I say if Nebraska ever built a new stadium it would be close to i80 so you'd have way better access to the stadium and way better parking but that's jmo

If the stadium was ruined thats fine. You play on the field, no question. Build back around it.

The stadium is nestled nicely on the campus and near downtown. The parking however, is horrible to the point of not wanting to attend!

I don’t get to football games very often. However, I park at the Devaney Center in the large parking lot just northeast of the arena for free the last several years. It is a little bit of a hike to the stadium but free is free. Winking

You'd need to stay on campus. Moving out by I80 might be great for parking but would destroy the Haymarket and a lot of downtown. Those businesses rely on the 7 Saturdays in the fall to make a good portion of their revenue.

Are there any engineering/construction issues of building further capacity if seats were installed?
There's been rumors of doing something in south stadium. As far as I know it is just that. Only side that hasn't been modernized as far as seating. They remodeled the locker rooms and concourses years ago.

would have like to have seen the north end rebuilt in such a way to make it tie in better to the east/west sections. and then match the south endzone to that.

since they didn't, tear down the south portion, rebuild it really cushy, and put in recliners looking right at the big screen...

Sounds similar to what KU did in their stadium after their Orange Bowl season except the big screen is behind the recliners and they didn't have to tear anything down. Okay, so KU just put in some recliners.

I usually only go to 1 game a year but I always just buy a parking pass in the garage across from the basketball arena. Its 25 bucks and really easy

If we didn’t rebuild in the same spot then how will the players have the awesome tunnel walk entrance to motivate them? We might lose a lot of games without it

well, when I win the mega millions jackpot tonight I will donate 200 million if they build a new stadium. I love everything about our stadium except the seating. 70% of all the seating is either in the endzones, or luxury boxes. Better to have more levels with more seating inside the 20's.

Why don't you donate the money to put in stadium seating and then put into an escrow money that would earn interest to make up for the lost revenue in reduction of total seating.
AND a couple luxury boxes for those attending the Christmas party this year. Or for all the new fans on here pretending to be UCF trolls.

Btw would be nice to tear all bleachers out and put in seats! If it affects capacity, then build on.
Would be too easy to see all the empty seats then when things aren't going well.Winking Seriously, something needs to be done about the width allotted for the seats. I would love to make the wonks in the administration come have to sit with me at games and try to even stand comfortably let alone sit. It's a joke and friends I take to games vow to never come back because of how ridiculously over crowded it is. NU should have built a completely new stadium back when Osborne had things rolling in the early 90s. I love the ambiance of old stadiums to a degree but at some point one just has to realize that something is obsolete. IF they would take a couple of seats out of each row, I would GLADLY absorb the cost in my ticket price.

I agree to a certain extent. They definitely need to widen the seats. Some of the people seriously require three seats, and then ***** when you say something. Modernize the seats, and cut down the capacity a bit.

The problem would be the people who have had season tickets for 40 years and all the seats would have to be re-arranged. It would be a nightmare, but the current situation is not fathomable. IF you widen the seats out and cut down on the number of seats in the stadium you also help solve some of the parking issues and antiquated entrances congestion to East and West stadiums

Yeah it will definitely be a challenge for those with season tickets, but if rolled out correctly, there will be some bitching no matter what, but it will fade. It is needed in this day and age where it is just as easy to stay home and watch on your 100 in 4K TV. It's time to give some comfort.

I have never taken a tape measure but will have to next time. I need to measure my seat space in the 600 level seats vs my seat in west stadium. When we sit in west we always rent the stadium seats AND get there early to stake our claim. The other trick is don't leave your seats... they'll slide your stadium seats believe it or not. 600 level seams less squished. The seat back helos too.

Have had a very robust couple sitting in front of me this year hanging off the back of their seats into my knees. So far the football has been hard to watch, coupled with the sardine can feeling and I find myself incapable of suffering through once their Runza farts start up 3rd quarter.

The other reason for me, I used to usher there from 78-83. Loved watching the pre pregame. Got to lustli to the marching band practice. The TV crews set up etc. All the vendors and concession people etc. Just truly amazing what all goes on behind the scenes to play a football game. Been a while since they've had to remove snow. This might be the year.

donors pay too much for the 'extra ' tickets they have to buy in order for that streak to continue for them to splurge for another stadium project. but if rumors are true they only pay a penny or two for those extras so maybe what I say is a non factor.
don't build a new one..someone needs to stop the 'keep up with the jonses ' mindset

Wrong info you have. Guess you did qualify it as "rumors"

I'm right there with you, I show up really early, too. Watching all the moving parts is fun.

Yeah I am one of the people that have to be there in line when the gates open. Too bad the gates don't open 2 hrs before game time like they used to.

  • Leave it where it is. It is fine right there.
  • Take out the flippin bleachers and put in seats.
  • Take out 1 row and 1 seat on each row in every section.
For parking, I've never had a problem. If you do, just take the shuttle. They are all over the place in Lincoln and take you to the Lied Center. It is $10 round trip. If you go to 4 games or more, you can buy a year pass and it is cheaper.

there is a couple old seats that don't feel like being in a sardine can.
your back rests against them concrete pillars in the 4 corners.
but maybe that was before the remodel of the east and west side, I forget
