Never forget ❤️🤍💙

You sometimes see those bumper stickers that say “Keep Christ in Christmas” well we definitely need some that say “Keep the Memorial in Memorial Day” because all too many Americans get caught up in simply having a long weekend for cookouts to kick off the summer.

Thank you to those who made the ultimate sacrifice for us 🇺🇸

Just returned from our local Memorial Day Tribute. It was my honor and privilege to play taps for the laying of the wreath.
I go every year. Similar ceremony at my church cemetery. The crowds used to be huge. Not anymore. That said patriotism is learned and oh well. My grandfather was a legion commander and we learned to show some appreciation for our veterans on Memorial Day.

My close friend Danny, God Speed My Friend, I'll be visiting you shortly.

We started at the Penn State Campus - Wilkes-Barre with 65 other engineering students during orientation.
(Danny became part of our close fellowship of a dozen or so guys)
Wrapping up the second year, Danny decided to drop out of school and join the Army as a Medical Corpsman.
A little more than a year later we received word from Danny's mother that Dan was killed in action.

When I have business at the Wilkes-Barre courthouse, I stop by the Veterans Wall, say a short prayer and pay homage to Danny.

Several mentions of Pearl Harbor in this thread. The link above contains the beautiful tradition of survivors of the Arizona who chose to have their ashes placed in the ship upon their passing. The list of those interred there is as of 2020. Since then all of the known survivors but one have died and he has stated his intention not be placed in the ship so the roster is complete. We owe them all a debt of gratitude we are powerless to repay.

I’ve stood on the memorial and looked down on the ship. It’s a sobering visual of the cost of freedom.
Michael Baker Jr. reimbursed me a couple of thousand dollars for engineering classes I was enrolled for several years while employed.
Since Kar and I never had a honeymoon because we couldn't afford one; we were married in my second semester, and decided to use the money and travel to Hawaii.

This is a pic of the U.S.S. Utha Memorial I took in 1974.

"The memorial, dedicated in 1972, consists of a simple white platform with interpretive signage extending toward the water near the sunken ship. It is often referred to as the “Forgotten Ship of Pearl Harbor” because it receives less public attention than the USS Arizona Memorial, yet it commemorates the bravery and sacrifice of the Utah’s crew. The American flag flies over the memorial, and the site includes a plaque and shoreline monument marking the resting place of the ship and its crew."
