Most good Div-1 teams have geographically diverse rosters. Maybe the tide is turning from the failed provincial mindset that Rutgers always had. We have years of lackluster results to encourage us to look for talented athletes first, then worry about if they are NJ natives.

True freshman walk-on.
Was supposed to be a huge get. Top kicker out there. So Greg turned a soccer player into our kicker who cost us at the UMich game and now a guy who's kicked all of a couple of years and went 6 of 10 missing 4 times inside the 45. 33% into the end zone on kick offs.
Guy just loves to constantly churn the kicker in search of the diamond who can boom a 55 yarder.
Me? I just want a guy that you can count on to make a 45 yard kick.

He’s not a top kicker recruit. He is just active on social media and calls himself a 5-star kicker.

But he wasn’t. If he was such a huge get, he would have been given a scholarship coming out of high school. That does not mean he won’t end up being a good kicker for us.

That’s really not true based on past history. During his first tenure here they targeted kickers early and offered. This tenure has been different, but to be fair, he’s had to recruit areas of need all over the roster because of the smoking crater of a program he inherited.

This dude, er Jude, does have a big leg. Watch the first kick on the video - was from 47 yards, but would have been good from 60+. He hasn't been playing football that long, so hopefully his accuracy will improve with repetition, though 47 out of 47 on XPs is terrific.

OK. I guess he own's the content on other sites as well and can control his ratings.

"Last season for South Brunswick, Patel made 7 of 8 field goal attempts, including a long of 40 yards, and was a perfect 22 of 22 with PAT’s. He is known for a strong work ethic and strong technique. Patel should compete for the starting job at placekicker as soon as he arrives on campus next year.

He is rated a 5-star kicker and 3-star punter per Kohl’s Kicking and rated the 27th best kicker overall in 2022 class. Their scouting report states the following:

“Patel’s most recent camp was a 2021 May Showcase. He did very well in the field goal charting phase at camp. At Kohl’s National Scholarship Camp in July of 2020 he scored 28 points on FG’s and had a KO score of 106.73! His kickoffs are solid for a rising senior in high school. Patel is one of the cleanest ball strikers in his class and the drill work at multiple camps demonstrate that. Patel has good leg speed and a dependable leg swing. If he can continue to develop athletically in the coming months he will draw the interest from multiple D1 programs.”

Pete. I get the point. But help me understand why he "found" this soccer player turned into our starter overnight, then that kid decided to suddenly leave us needing to find the next unconventual game unproven special teams player we need so bad when an offense can't ever seem to finish in the red zone?

5-star from a random website doesn’t mean anything; besides, the website ranked him at 39th.
If he is really a top recruit, he would have been on scholarship.

How about this Ireland kicker?

Well… yeah, kind of like that except with less written Ireland and more oral Ireland. 😀

Although, now that I think about it, I’d want her to be Scottish so that they could put a clip of Mike Meyers doing the “if it's not Scottish, it‘s CRAP” routine after every punt.
