The reviews on this place are pretty disturbing...which doctor did you see?
Don't believe online reviews or testimonials about physicians. Trust your family doc for a referral and if you don't have a family doc find one. IF you're in Lincoln, Dan Ripa at Nebraska Orthopedic and Sports medicine is good. I knew him in undergrad. I think he still does some of the orthopedic surgery for the football team but he lists spinal surgery on their website. Good guy. Extremely bright. My family has known him for decades.

I dont fear salt, the right kind of salt in moderation is good for you. Bacon on the other hand...can't remember the last time I ate bacon.
There's a really good joke about a priest, a rabbi, a protestant minister, bacon and sex...but I don't think I can tell it.

I have arthritis in my spine. Not the same as your wife, but back pain is awful.

1. Run, and I mean sprint, away from the stupid *** chiropractors. They are quacks who are the spinal equivalent of cracking your knuckles to make your fingers feel better. Gotta keep going back because it is ********.

2. Don't listen to the naysayers about the plant based diet. The number one issue you have to deal with is reducing inflammation. A plant based approach works wonders in that regard. I don't go full vegan since I do eat eggs. I have my own free range chickens and organic eggs have high content of omega 3 oils. Eat those moderately too.

3. Find a very, very good orthopedic doctor who specializes in spinal issues. I started with an ortho guy who came highly recommended. But he was not helpful because his specialty was sport's related knee injuries. He was a nice and honest dude though and finally referred me to a spinal guy. Big help.

4. Do NOT engage in some nonsense "back exercises" recommended by someone on YouTube. The wrong exercises can make things far worse. Especially the "you gotta strengthen your core" type exercises. Ugh. Exercise will be essential but it has to be mild and directly targeted to your wife's specific problem. That can only be diagnosed with an MRI and a few other tests.

5. Don't get discouraged and best of luck to your wife. Back pain blows chunks

Aren’t chiropractors covered by insurance, awarded doctorates by both state and national boards? Doesn’t sound quacky to me....

Yes. Yes. And Yes.
My experiences with them have been awful. And I have seen a ton of them before I realized they were doing more harm than good.
The problem that I have seen with chiropractors is that they lack a solid peer review process and there are a LARGE number of them doing things they shouldn't be doing. Chiropractic schools turn out a HUGE number of grads and there's an over supply. When that happens, many try to supplement their income by "practice management" techniques and supplement sales. I have several chiropractors I consider friends. One does a lot of physical therapy type things and does a lot of his patients a lot of good. Some of my MD friends refer patients to him as an option. Another once broke a guys neck adjusting his spine. He took the radiograph of the guys neck but didn't catch the crack in a cervical vertebrae. I've had anatomy. I've dissected lots of spines. "Adjusting spines" is in fact quackery. I've got a really good story involving one of my chiropractor friends and his attorney brother but it's too long for here.

I have a very good friend who is a chiropractor and he got out of the spinal adjustment business a long time ago. He said it is potentially dangerous and does little good. He is now, as you mentioned, more into the physical therapy end of things. I think he is pretty good at what he does.

Couldn’t the same be said about a lot of medical professionals?
I had a horrible dentist that totally botched my root canal. My uncle is an MD and when I had allergies (in the late eighties- into early nineties) he gave me Seldane and I took 800 mg/day for over 8 years as a child/teenager. When it was real bad my dad took me to a chiropractor and within one or two neck adjuments my allergies decreased dramatically (and no I’m not saying chiropractors cure allergies- just it helped me tremendously). Later on they took Seldane off the market and a class action suit occurred because that medicine caused liver/kidney failure. Of course my uncle was apologetic but i don’t hold any bad will toward MD’s or DDS’s. I just don’t think it’s fair to have a bad experience and then blowhard a profession- just my two cents worth....

Go see Dr Gill at Nebraska Spine. I had problems for years and he found the problem right away and now I am 110% better with almost total movement returned. I was at less than 35%!

You're off your rocker if you think "adjustments" did anything physically for your allergies. (in your head maybe) I have never had a bad experience with a chiropractor because I have never felt the urge to go to one. I have multiple friends who are chiropractors and no doubt there are sub par physicians as well. They lose millions in lawsuits and lose their licenses everyday. Even though there is a large segment of chiropractors who fleece their patients I have yet to see one lose their license.
I can never get the picture out of my mind when a chiropractor friend of mine "adjusted" the hip of a guy who came to our pick up basketball game over his lunch break at noon. The guy walked in TOTALLY NORMALLY. Then my friend cracked his hip and told him how much better he was going to feel as the guy screamed in pain. The guy limped out grimacing barely able to walk and said, "thanks doc". His attorney brother standing next to me on one end of the court said as this was going on said, "yeah sell him better doc" as he rolled his eyes.
