Tom Fornelli of CBSSports said what many West Virginia fans were hoping. Although it did not go down as they hoped, the Mountaineers may have gotten an upgrade at the head coaching position (all while reportedly saving millions of dollars). Neal Brown found plenty of success as an offensive coordinator at the highest levels of college football, and has won double-digit games in each of the last three seasons as a head coach.

Brad Powers, who covers college football for Pregame and used to work with expert prognosticator Phil Steele, agrees with Fornelli. The aforementioned three-straight double-digit win seasons stat? Only six coaches in all of FBS can claim that - and two of them are playing in the National Championship next week.

West Virginia, despite being last to come open, may have won this coaching carousel.
Stewart Mandel of The Athletic - and formerly Sports Illustrated and Fox Sports - says that even with the delay, the Mountaineers may have gotten the best candidate.

An absolute home run for West Virginia. Neal Brown is one of six coaches who have 10 or more wins in each of the last three seasons (Nick Saban, Dabo Swinney, Urban Meyer, Chris Petersen, Bryan Harsin)http://bit.ly/2RaKt3I
Barrett Sallee of CBSSports called the hire "an absolute home run."

Have to say, I think West Virginia got the available coach with the highest ceiling this silly season.
The people who have interviewed Brown were really impressed BUT in a few cases there were coaches with more support and closer ties to a program so he was not hired.
