Media Issues

So we have seen in recent days that Media Personalities and Other folks in Media like myself have been turned away from game even with a approved NCHSAA.

I find it - Odd and discerning that some schools are taking away from their student athletes and exposure.

It’s ashamed for those who put their time and soul into media and other things to promote NC Football!

I understand there been issues within the Media aspect and all with the fake media and too many folks sometimes on the field but What’s the solution bc Not allowing any media on the field is Ludicrous

What was the issue?
I have heard rumbling that people have been having issues getting field access even with their media pass or whatever.

CLT is apparently turning people away including people like Matt Marrow who we all know. So It’s crazy to me

Sometimes the only way is a black and white, all or none, policy for school boards and government agencies. If they don’t go this route, someone is immediately looking for the loophole to abuse. See exhibit: Service Dogs.

It’s probably not how anyone wants to handle it but it only takes the wrong person and a choicely edited 5-second video posted to social media and the whole internet is ready to fire everyone that works in a county.

Or I should sometimes they have to take the all or none approach, while a lawyer helps them craft a policy that is more lawsuit-proof to those they turn away.

A few notes and common curtesy ground rules... coming from someone who has had access to NCHSAA Media credentials in the past.
  1. Schools should never turn down NCHSAA media credentials at the gates.
  2. Sideline access is a different story. If you are going down to the field during the game, you should atleast have a camera or something similar, and not just a smartphone.
  3. If you are going down to the field just to watch the game, go find a seat in the stands.
  4. Pressbox access should only be for newspaper/radio/video or online broadcasts/stats/scoreboard operator/PA/Online Media updaters. If you are not one of these, you really shouldn't be taking up a seat just to watch the game, especially because guys who are spotters or scouts could be using that space, instead. Unless there is a bunch of extra room and you have a media pass. You should at the very least be taking notes on a laptop or notebook or doing live updates or something like that.
  5. Also, no one with media credentials should be denied access to the field after a game, but I feel like you should atleast conduct an interview or video or something.
  6. Media members should not be going onto the field after the game to give kudos, i don't care how much of a supporter of a certain area you are or how well you know a kid. Media members should be unbiased and should never cheer or begrudge when a team makes a play.

I think what they need to do is what either Burke Co Does or AZ does for their Officials

Burke Co - U have to 1. have nchsaa pass but to have Field axcess you must be registered within the Burke Co School District Office.

In AZ to become a AIA Official

U have to do a Finger Print Card thru the Sheriff Office. I think this could be a good idea because 1. If anything Occurs on the field with Media then with finger print card u know the info of the person. Finger Print Card u have your finger prints taken at the Sheriff Office its stays on file for 6 yr and thats how long the card is for.

Has there been any kind of law or rule that had changed about videoing players on the field. Something like copy rights law.. I thought I heard something here lately about that. I was just curious. Maybe what I heard was about something else.

I completely understand because everyone with a cell phone thinks they are media now. Guys like Matt with CFI should never be declined access, they do so much good for the kids. But these fly by night guys who are media one day, quit the next, are media again, quit, start charging for pictures, quit etc…. Got to go before they ruin it for the ones putting real work in.
