Of course not! You know damn well Nate Oats doesn't get to play many teams in the tournament. Why you gotta call him out like that? 🤣

If they are the best team, why are 3 teams still ranked above them?

He's not really my boy. I would just take him long before I would Nate Oats. I want someone proven like Bennett, Pearl, Sampson, Wright, Donovan, Vogel, as a last resort...Scott Drew.
Okay, but your boy Lloyd is starting to show how bad of a coach he truly is.

Oats is showing what he can do when he has long athletic players.

Oats >>> Lloyd

Out of the list you show, none of those guys will ever coach here. Some won't accept the job and the rest wont be offered the job. At least be realistic.

Why would I change my mind on him? Cal lost with an NBA starting 5 in 2010, WVa, who ended up getting handled in the next round.

That doesn't mean he was the wrong guy for the job, he rattled off 4 final 4's and a title.

As long as Alabama stays healthy, especially Miller, they ain't losing in the 2nd round. They rebound and defend too well.

You know who's not going anywhere? Arizona.
You anytime you see Nate Oats on tv.

I have no idea what AZ has to do with my post, as I am talking strictly about Oats.

You don't have to change your mind, that is fine. I am just curious to see how he will perform in the tourney with actual pressure for a change.

Cal had been to final fours before he came to UK, so him getting their was never a concern of mine. Can't say the same about Oats at this point. But as I say, let's see what he does this year with a really really good roster, and then reassess after.

He is showing how bad he is by being ranked top 10 for a 2nd consecutive season, Which also happens to be his 2nd as a HC? That makes no sense.

What's he showing he can do? He hasn't won anything yet?

Considering Drew was already reported as the likely pick, that's 1. Pearl and Sampson would jump at the chance and both would be contenders. Wright will likely entertain getting back into coaching at some point and Vogel already has ties here, so not sure why he would say no. We pay more than the NBA. Bennett would certainly be getting a huge pay bump and upgrades across the board. I could easily see him coming.

A lot of posters can’t see the forest through the trees. Cal is at the tail end of his career wether you like it or not. UK admin has likely already made a list of names to be ready for Cal’s retirement (I think it will come after next season).

So I don’t get the hate for Oates. Stevens and Donovan definitely ain’t coming and Wright is a long shot. Those are the guys who have won stuff and it’s unlikely we get any of them.

So after them who are the best options? Oates is up there, again, whether you like him or not. Scott Drew is up there as well. That’s as proven as it gets with the available young coaches today. After that you start taking much bigger chances with guys like Holtman and Vogel (I am partial to Vogel, I think he has tremendous upside as UK’s basketball coach).

We’ve named our candidates but the Cal slurpers have yet to name theirs. It’s one thing to criticize another person’s coaching preference but to do so without offering up your own choice just sounds petty.

Yeah, Arizona is top 10 right now, but they’re going to plummet.

He's the Christ Holtman of the PAC11.

Mitch might want Scott Drew, but that doesn't mean Scott Drew is going to accept it.

Plus, that's a bad hire.

my problem is there are no coaches out there I want other than Brad Stevens, and I think its a snowballs chance he is coming.

I really don't want to live thru 3 -5 years of a coach, who did OK at a school coming here and peak at an elite 8.

I'm not against Oats anymore than I am any other coach that hasn't been to a final four.

I want the mold of a former NBA guy that was very successful in college. I guess that guy isn't out there other than Stevens (don't say Vogel). Pitino from the Knicks and Providence, Cal from the Nets and UMass (plus Memphis) - the most exciting basketball UK has had has been with that formula

Lol, Lloyd was coach of the year last year. His 1st season as a HC. His team is currently ranked top 10 in his 2nd season, and he has an 88% win percentage as a head coach. And you have determined he is Chris Holtmann like. Yet, you want to hire a guy, who in his 9th season, has yet to make it past a SW16, just went 19 and 14 last year, 16 - 15 3 years ago and has a 67% win percentage? Good Lord.

I don’t want Drew, but he is far more successful and proven than Oats.

Wait, you think OSU has never been ranked in the top 10 during Holtman's tenure?

Lloyd has nothing in the tank. Losing to wasu at home, then to Oregon, is like losing to South Carolina, twice. He has a stacked roster too.

I bet you secretly want Oats, you just don't want to admit it, because being argumentative is your thing.

When was the last time OSU was ranked that high towards the end of a season? When did they and Holtmann last make a SW16. When was Holtmann coach of the year? When did he have an 88% winning percentage?

Can you name a head coach without bad losses on their record?

I want a winner. Not a 9 year HC who has yet to make it past a SW16, and has only been to one of those. His style just isn't conducive to a tournament setting.

Ohhh, now you have qualifiers in there. Now, Ohio state has to have been in the top 10 "late in the season", even though this isn’t" late in the season".

Keep in mind, Lloyd is playing in a weaker conference thank Ohio state/Holtman is.

Also, who givrs a rip about COTY? That's a voted honor. He made the damn sweet 16, lets not act like he cured cancer. Sheesh.

Why would a pre season or early season ranking mean squat? Did we really look top 5 like our pre season and early rank suggest? If you're that high later in the year, it's a lot more accurate and meaningful.

They are currently ranked top 10 in mid January. It probably wasn't a fluke. Where did they finish the regular season last year?

Big10 is usually over-rated as ****. Aside from Mich St, which big 10 team has been in a F4 recently?

COY is pretty major. Even more so when you win it your first season. Seems odd you would want to discredit that. Surely Oats has one, right? 😉

Maybe in your fantasies.

Exactly how many love letters have you sent to Coach Lloyd? Sheesh.
