gambled that he would get picked. Now that he didn't go until the 2nd round he may not get a guaranteed contract. The league minimum for a roster player is 500k so IF he makes the roster he'll get at least that.
He probably would have gotten that in NIL money at Nebraska had he stayed and would have probably been a 1st in 2023. Did he really think he was a 1st rounder in this years draft?gambled that he would get picked. Now that he didn't go until the 2nd round he may not get a guaranteed contract. not to mention the NBA views all newcomers whose age begins with a '2' as over-the-hillEveryone just assumes he would have improved his stock...no guarantee on that, have you paid attention to our program?? Factor in the injury possibility on top of that. He did what he felt was right for him and we should hope to recruit many more players exactly like him.
I thought I read that Charlotte was going to offer him a 2 way deal. So about $450k for the year.As I understand it, every 2nd round draft pick (or at the very least nearly every 2nd round draft pick) in the last several years has received at least a 2 year guaranteed contract. If his agent is worth crap, he will get a guaranteed contract, and probably above the minimum. There is no requirement he gets one like there is for 1st rounders, but apparently it is most likely he will.
$450k might seem like a lotI thought I read that Charlotte was going to offer him a 2 way deal. So about $450k for the year.
And after 1 year if he doesn’t make it, at least he has $450k$450k might seem like a lot
but you simply can’t put a price tag on the privilege of playing in the annual Creighton - NU tilt. Very short sighted of the young man and his handlers.
Imagine being able to regale your grandchildren with stories of not just the one time but also an additional 2-3 times he was on the court when we almost beat Creighton
he is going to miss playing in those games and no amount of money is going to change that

They all think that they are going to be 1st rounders. I think McGowens made a mistake by coming out. He needs to get a lot stronger and show that he can defend. The question would have been where McGowens would have played college ball if he had stayed. I think he would have transferred to an ACC school or maybe the SEC.He probably would have gotten that in NIL money at Nebraska had he stayed and would have probably been a 1st in 2023. He didn’t make a mistake he got drafted 40th , that’s middle of the 2nd round. The guys that made a mistake are the one who declared and didn’t get drafted. They all think that they are going to be 1st rounders. I think McGowens made a mistake by coming out. Well not exactly. He'll have about half that much after federal and state income tax..... Then there's always the living expenses that he was being paid for in college. t'And after 1 year if he doesn’t make it, at least he has $450k

Exactly right. He's gonna give half to the government. He's going to buy a car that's probably too expensive. He's going to live in an expensive condo or apartment. He's gonna find out soon that $450k doesn't really go all that far in the grand scheme of things. And trying to manage that newly earned money after college can be hard for anyone regardless of profession.
you don't think the education he received at NU will help him avoid such pitfalls?Exactly right. He's gonna give half to the government. He's going to buy a car that's probably too expensive. You guys don’t seem to be giving the kid much credit, He might be able to handle the money better than both of you!Exactly right. He's gonna give half to the government.
