Smothers is a raw project in his passing game. Lots of schools took a pass on him because of it, and watching his film, it scares the living daylights out of me. He can def move though. A run first kind of guy.

Curious how would u classify McCaffery as a passer. Not sure i see him as a better passer than the Smothers kid myself. I could be wrong though. Smothers however from my POV is a much better runner.

Smothers also is the younger guy. Lets hope he gets better as a passer. MvCaffery as well for that matter. We need them both to become better.

I expect him to be our back up QB after fall camp unless Vedral is so much ahead in the thought process do to being in the system for a number of years..

Oh I think McCaffrey is okay. He has good fundamentals most of the time and looks around the field at his options. Most kids don't come out of HS as ready made QB's so I'm not knocking any of these guys. They all have things they need to work on. The best way to describe Mc, is not a lot of errors on tape. He doesn't have the wheels that Smothers has. Both guys look like competitors, esp Smothers. When he is on the field, it's his show, and I like that a lot about him.

Yeah, I disagree with the OP entirely. Verduzco is a grizzled old war ax who appears to know what he's doing with QB development, and he's already said McCaffrey is 100% a QB. That, and if Bunch sticks around, we have a three-deep at QB next year. It's a perfect opportunity to have McCaffrey come in during garbage time if you want for 4 games or less, but give him a year in S&C and practicing to start to really develop.

AM is our QB for at least the next year, if not two. After that, simply because either next year or the year after it's entirely possible he makes a Heisman run, my guess is he'll declare for the NFL draft. He's big, tall, fast...he's going to be playing on Sundays. McCaffrey is the next one up, and I honestly think he's going to be great.

Agreed, Smothers motion is a little funky, looks like he just sort of flips his wrist when he throws, but he's got decent zip on the ball and good touch. I'm not worried about coaches getting it cleaned up.

Bunch is on the exchange but you'd think there would have been some news by now if he'd been picked up. He may end up staying at NU if nobody else is going to give him a scholarship or indicate he'll start there if he transfers.

With them only taking one QB this cycle and Vedral looking like he has, I think they have to keep McCaffrey at QB and try to redshirt him. I banged the "play him at WR or RB" drum for a while but I don't know that he beats out the guys they have at WR and RB now that the class is coming together.

If you watch his senior film vs his junior film, his passing has improved. He's getting the ball down more and getting some more pop on his throws. His accuracy numbers are good. I think if we're being honest, if he wasn't Christian's brother nobody would be talking about playing him anywhere but QB. Who's he gonna play slot over, JD? Wandale? Not very realistic.

They might get some packages together where he's on the field with Martinez to make the defense worry about trick plays and double passes.
