I just have this feeling he will not red shirt but be a jack of all trades in 2019.

McCaffery is a raw QB that started one year. If you want him to be a QB in your system, you don’t slow his development by making him play WR. Unless the long term plan is to make his a WR. And if that’s the case, we should have recruited another QB this cycle.

Logically and from what Mario said, I would think he doesn’t do anything but QB. At the very least for the first season or two.

What would be even better is that he is better than Martinez and beats him out for the job this spring. :);) If that doesn't happen yes I have thought this as well. I think he is too talented to not use him is some aspect. Maybe convert to WR

McCaffrey understands that sometimes you have to wait your turn behind other talented, heralded recruits. He went to Valor Christian, after all.

Well, there's nothing really wrong with having two damn good qbs. Who knows? He might be terrific....if so, him and AM will both be deadly.

The only other position he plays the next year or 2 would be for trick plays. I just don’t see them moving him to receiver and limiting his reps at QB.

Frankly, it doesn’t make sense to me not to keep him at QB. One injury to AM and we are down to Vedral. A second injury brings in Masker.

Do we want to roll the dice on the health of AM and limit his reps at QB? I don’t think so. He may be an amazing athlete, but that is something we have on offense already with JD and Wandale coming in... why roll the dice?

His brother is in the same position at Michigan. He will be a junior when Patterson is out of the picture with some highly regarded recruits behind him.

I have a hard time seeing him elsewhere after Mario made it clear he is a QB and nothing else.

But I could be wrong and Mario was just toying with us all. But I don’t think so.

Besides, Isn’t Wandale supposed to be that guy?

I dont doubt that he will be a QB. I just doubt that he will ever be a starting QB at NU provided AM doesnt get injured next year.

I see Smothers as our next starting QB whenever that may be. Vedral and McCaffery imo could be pretty good back up guys BUT id cringe if we needed Vedral to be the starter for any extended minutes. Not so much when it comes to McCaffery. I think he can be good. I think Smothers could be special. I predict he picks up where AM leaves off. Plus by the time he starts he will have much more talent around him.

I tgink AM sets the table for us but it may be Smothers as the guy who finishes it off...jmo.

Smothers will come in and compete for the job with McCaffrey once AM leaves. If, Smothers wins the job, then and only then do I see a position change for McCaffrey IMO.

Smothers is a raw project in his passing game. Lots of schools took a pass on him because of it, and watching his film, it scares the living daylights out of me. He can def move though. A run first kind of guy.

There are quite a few Michigan fans who believe the UM McCafferey is actually better than Patterson, and I concur. IMO, Shea Patterson is the most overrated player in College Football.
