Not much of a surprise. Hope he gets his 4 games to show what's in store for the future.

Probably for the best. I feel loads more comfortable with our QB situation than I did a year ago. That's not to say I wouldn't be concerned about losing AM to injury because not one of the backups would have his kind of production IMO. I expect great things from AM this year...

...Is it Saturday yet?

This is what you want for his career progression. Martinez is your clear starter and only a soph, it would be nuts to burn McCaffrey's shirt unless they have a clear need for him at another position. But they've consistently said they only want him at QB.

Will probably see him in 4 games though.

Wouldn't we only burn his shirt if both 2AM and Vedral went down? Vedrals health is the only determining factor on McCaffreys red shirt.

Vedral is not the athlete Luke is...and would make this offense go with his speed.

The only question is which four games? Do you play him in one early game to see what he can do in a real game, or keep him out of all games as long as possible in case he needs to play in four games due to injuries.

If we’re up 2-3 scores on Colorado, wouldn’t it be fitting to have him showcase his talents against his home state?? That would be awesome!!Laughing

Why would we pick 2019, true Freshman McCaffrey over 2024, 5th year Senior McCaffrey.

I always go back to Suh playing as an average player as a true Freshman, getting hurt and being granted a 5th year of eligibility. I'd gladly scrap his entire Freshman year for his 5th year in the program!

If no injuries occur, he may not get many snaps. You have to give Vedral his opportunity, how many games do you think the Huskers can go three deep in QB’s with the game well in hand?

McCaffrey may get some snaps but I can’t see it being much more than token appearances.

Suh wasn’t going to be here that 5th year anyway

The first game is likely to be the only chance of a blowout. Tough choice: Play him Saturday and get him significant work. Or save him in case Martinez gets hurt and they need him for three or four games. Martinez figures to take some big hits just like last year.

Suh did play his 5th year with us and almost won the Heisman. However, he never started a game either of his Freshman seasons.

My point is unless a player is going to dominate from day 1 or we have no talent ahead of him, I'd rather redshirt a guy and trade year 1 in the program for a potential year 5.

I'm just happy he's willing to redshirt when it's in his best interests. Seems like a lot of guys will bolt the second they aren't number 1 (even with an established starter). Great sign that Frost and his staff are recruiting guys that are team first and not me first.
