I firmly believe that the media is burning Cal out and our program. Now Cal has brought some of this on himself with "gold standard" and the " we are college basketball" comments and things like that, but we all know Cal like any successful coach has a large ego and he probably feels he should be placed in the same realm as K is with the success he has had, but it will never happen because he is a Coach at UK and has been very boisterous with some of his comments in his time here.

Look at the way the media attacked the program last night over the handshake issue, the ESPN Instagram crap.

The NCAA stacks the deck against us every year by crappy brackets, corrupt officiating and so on. Chris Webber openly cheering for anyone we played in the tournament. The media does not even try to hide it anymore.

It has to be draining Cal to know and he is a smart man and has to know he will never be allowed to win another title. It's just not going to happen unfortunately.

Recruits I am sure see this as well and that could be the reason we are missing on our priority targets the last few years. Would you want to go to a school that will get screwed over one way or another in the tournament in your only year in college?

Yes we should have made the final four, but the folks that put our bracket together thought Arizona would beat us and definitely Virginia would it just so happens they got upset. And honestly we were not going to beat Nova, Duke, or even Kansas if we got there, but anytime since 2012 we have had a team that was the best team going into the tournament 2015, 2017, we get screwed by officiating, and seeding, and in 2011 and 2014 and we had to play way above our heads only to get thru a gauntlet of great teams only to get screwed by officiating in the end.

I believe Nike got pissed at Cal for not playing in their tournament as well and are doing everything they can to steer the top guys to Duke. Cal was the one guy who could out recruit Duke and being at UK could have won 2 or 3 more titles since 2012 if given a fair shake, but unfortunately the media, NCAA and others probably due to the Olympic team want K to be remembered at this generations John Wooden and Cal was threatening that from happening due to the classes he was getting.

I'm not the biggest Cal fan, but it has to wear you down knowing your fighting a constant uphill battle against all the powers that be to keep you from having a FAIR chance to win championships.

Cal ain’t letting them win. He’ll be here when K and Roy are forced to watch him on TV.
K is never going away now. He is going to get his 6th title this year and the heavy favorite for 7 next year. Hell at that point the NCAA will have him stick around till he gets 8 just so they can say he alone has won as many as the Kentucky program.

Yeah but your not a UK fan so I can’t take you seriously.
Think what you want I don't care, I'm not the biggest fan of Cal's coaching, but the man is fighting a uphill battle and it would wear anyone out after a while. We are the red-headed step child in the media's eyes. I honestly feel for Cal and our program.
We are going to have to be 15 points better than everyone to have a chance at another title will he is here even with a 2012 type team, we had that team in 2015 and got screwed senseless and again last year.

Coaches don't spend time worrying what we think. They wouldn't be able to coach if they did.

Dude I hate your thread title but everything else I 100% agree with.

I don’t think Cal is burnt, I think it all pisses him off and he obviously still has a ton of energy. He’s just gotta learn an adjustment to all the roadblocks.

Go to the NCAA, sell them on the dream of mega-events starring the UK name. Ask what he can do to help their contracts, their ratings.

Hell, get his kids to do commercials on how great the NCAA is. I don’t really care.

He’s been real—real to media, refs, and admins who all hate him and his school acutely, actively, and with power. That’s the biggest adjustment he has to make.

K has already done it. Can Cal get on that level?

K is the annointed one by the NCAA and the media is the problem. Cal is just not liked and is controversial in some of the things he says.
Look at the one and done thing, when Cal embraced it he was ruining college bball, his players were mercenaries, but when K bought in he was a innovator, and so on.
It is sickening and I think Cal knows his chances at another title is minimal at best with outside factors coming into play and maybe thinks the best way to have a legacy is to put the most guys in the league and that's why he talks the NBA thing so much.

Probably true on the legacy thing.

That said, he just needs one weird group who choose to come back.

Duke is going to be in for a shocker when they play one of the two best teams left in the tournament. Duke has played nobodies so far.

Coach Cal knows who the real Big Blue Fans are and not the Trolls and the opposing team fans from Duke, UNC, UL, IU, etc. Coach Cal knows the fans that fills Rupp up with 24,000 fans, takes over Nashville, St. Louis, SECT, and follows the team during the NCAAT. He has said many times to the players don't pay attention to the trolls on the fan websites and to stay clear from the fan websites. Coach Cal loves Kentucky, the players, the fans and knows he has the best team, players, and fans across all of the NCAA Basketball.

If all I ever did was read this board I'd put everything I own in aluminum foil stock. I've never seen so many tin foil hats and conspiracy theories. It's the media's fault. It's the ref's fault. It's the announcers fault. It's the committee's fault. It's Nike's fault. It's the fans' fault. "They" (whoever that is) will never let us win.

We got a bracket where the path to the final four was a 12 seed, 13 seed, 9 seed and 11 seed. We out shot our opponent by 15 free throws last night and it would have been WAY more than that had we not missed the front end of some bonuses. The other team was called for 9 more fouls than us, despite leading the entire game. And yet there's still many pushing some conspiracy for why we lost. Frankly, it's embarrassing.

Great post. As I said yesterday, I'd love to see the resumes of our many armchair coaches who I'm sure that, had they been at the helm these past 9 years, would have won 3 or 4 more NCAA titles and recruited better than Cal. We were irrelevant the last couple years of the Tubby Era and pathetic during the BCG Era. Cal instantly made us one of the top 2 or 3 premier teams in cbb over the past 9 years. Anyone who believes that once Cal leaves UK will zoom back to the top 'because we are UK' is delusional. When Sutton left, several top coaches, including former UK great Pat Riley, turned us down because of people like the ones on this board who come out from under their rocks whenever we lose a game. Would any of you want to be the head coach of the UK program? We were damned lucky that Rick was willing to come here and have the success he did, and I say that despite Rick's shortcomings as a person. He was a great coach so let's give credit where it is due. After Rick left, Tubby won with a team of players who were all recruited and coached by Pitino. After that, Tubby never made a FF again and by the time he departed our program was in shambles.

So when Cal decides he's had enough, who is going to come in and bring in 3 to 6 5-stars every year? In the 10 years prior to Cal taking over, we had how many 5-star recruits? In Cal's 9 years, how many have we had and how many FF have we been to? With a little luck, we could have easily won 5 more NC's than we have since Cal took over. So do you want Sean Miller? Izzo who is getting very old? Bennett? Who, aside from K, Smith, Williams, Rupp and Wooden has ever had the type of recruiting successes that Cal has had on a sustained basis for better than a decade if you add in his time at Memphis State? It isn't likely that we are going to come close to replacing Cal or the success he's had the last 9 years, although our spoiled fan base apparently feels he hasn't met their ridiculous expectations. The answer is no one and though it pains me to say this as a UK fan of 52 years, I think we are likely to go through some very hard times when Cal leaves. I am far from certain that just because we are UK that we are somehow guaranteed to have great success and be in the NC hunt nearly every year. Do you remember that Rupp didn't win another NC after 1958 despite retiring some 14 years later? I sure do.

At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if we reach singularity and bionic coach K emerging from a fusion of man and robot, to coach Duke in perpetuity.

Over the last 9 years we've gone from Duke doing things the right way and playing with kids who cared for the Duke program not mercenaries like UK, to anything you do I can do better than you... they are beating us in every aspect of one and done now in spite of overwhelming evidence that UK prepares you significantly better for the NBA than they do.

I don't know how they do it... sold their souls to the blue devil i guess.
