Well everyone on this board wants Rutgers to win.
Second, none of us has a say in the issue whether he plays or not.
Calling out fans for no reason at all!!
You are right fans have no say .
End of the day just win. Winning isn’t everything . It’s the only thing

My board cred was earned. Please stop with your posts.

this thread is insane, this is clear cut, these players SHOULD NOT be playing this year if every depending on what the courts decide.

that people are trying to excuse this as not a violent incident is beyond the pale
Why is this up to the courts? If they committed murder, then it's a question of guilt or innocence. If guilty, gone. If innocent, they come back. If they committed a speeding violation, we don't care what the courts think. We know what the crime was. I don't think the facts are in dispute. So at this point I don't think the legal proceeding matters in terms of meeting out school and team discipline.

Also, I think many people, not all, are appropriately trying to identify degrees of violence. Is any violent act cause for a year suspension or immediate dismissal? Obviously not. A shove. Throwing an egg at someone. The intent of the player was clearly not to cause serious injury. The act was reckless in that, with bad aim and luck, it could have caused serious injury. So it was bad judgement and lack of reasonable concern for others. But I don't think a full year suspension is appropriate either.

How do you agree with that? Characterizing the incident as "He shot them with a weapon and intent"? Using language like that is unfair, misrepresents what actually happened, and is needlessly inflammatory.

He shot them [with a spitball shooter] with intent [to gross them out].
He shot them [with an egg in a slingshot] with intent [to cover them with egg].
He shot them [with a paintball gun] with intent to [splat them with paint].

He shot them [with a gun] with intent [to kill them].

Using language like "he shot people with intent" or it was "a drive by shooting" is wrong and unfair to the players involved. It wrongly connotes people with guns intending to kill people. Not people with paintball or eggs intending to prank people. I'm certainty not advocating they get off with no punishment. Even if the prank was mean spirited and reckless, the "intent" was still to prank someone. Not to kill or seriously injure them. But the language a few people here are using is way over the top and and seems to be arguing for a punishment that fits an actual gun crime with intent to seriously injure or kill people. Football players are actual people and deserve to have fair punishments to that fit their actual transgressions. Not get run out of town by an internet mob.
Lol….Fixed it for you.
He shot them with a paintball gun from a moving car to inflict blood bruises and welts.
Cause anyone who’s played paintball without protective clothing knows from close range that’s what happens.

I’d throw them out of school for inflicting pain on 3 separate unsuspecting students minding their own business.
If splashing them with paint was their only offense I’d have no problem with zero discipline

Being shot with a paint ball gun does sting, no doubt, but people do play paintball for fun. It's really not that bad.

Obviously the face consideration is another factor, but being shot in the body is not the end of the world.

As far as cred goes, I have the most according to someone who once told me how bad a poster I was.
I think the ignore list was mentioned and how I was on peoples ignore list, to show what was thought of me.😃

It is humorous how some people claim to be the Muhammad Ali of the board(s) they post on and hijack threads into a me me me one.

As far as Max, it seems like the program is waiting for his case to be resolved and he'll stay suspended till then.
I won't complain, because when other programs allow their players to return before criminal charges are resolved, I complain

It leaves a blood bruise and a welt, got it, no big deal if you consent to it.
Some people don’t heal quickly, some people are weak, some people are diabetic…all could be a big deal with a body shot

I'm not trying to absolve Melton, but I don't think this requires the death penalty. Not the literal one, nor the figurative football related one either.

People can lose respect in a second. We have seen it every where these days. Your posts today was the implosion of your street cred. You have none anymore. One post can ruin a lifetime. You have about 10 today of your stupidity.

Agree. It's a big deal. How big? Not a year suspension big IMO.

Until something pops up in the news about the case, there’s nothing more to talk about on Max. There’s no chance he will play before then. The team has really missed him.

I still don't even know if Max and Chris did what they're accused of doing. Has anybody reported on that? Or is all the reporting basically about the arrests without providing any sense of proof of whom actually did the paintball shooting?

Even if we assume they did it, deliberately intending to hit innocent strangers with paintballs, I believe they will wind up getting nothing more than a slap on the wrist in court. Or the kids who were hit and any witnesses might even refuse to testify, resulting in the case being dropped or tossed for lack of evidence.

So that's what they court might do (if they did it, which is unproven as yet). That still leaves open the question of how GS should handle it. And, unless there is something even worse than what's being reported, I do not think the only path forward is for Max and Chris to continue to be suspended from the team.

I think it's a big deal to be driving around shooting people with paintball pellets. It deserves punishment by parents and coaches. So if they did it, they need to get punished in such a way that it provides a painful object lesson and sets a strong example for the rest of the team.

However, I don't think doing those things is incompatible with allowing them to rejoin the team and play the rest of the season. There are other ways to punish them without punishing the entire football program. Having them give up almost all of their free time (after school and football commitments) for the next two years while doing volunteer work of all kinds (from working soup kitchens and on roadside clean-up crews, to cleaning bathrooms in dorms, to visiting sick kids in cancer wards).

For kids their age and in this situation (being CFB players), that will be painful, humbling and also rewarding. It would also serve as a strong deterrent to other players who would not wish to be spending their summers doing such stuff almost every day.

GS can't make them do that. But he could offer it to them as a way to earn their way back on the team this season, even while the legal stuff is being slowly sorted out.

just following up @mildone .
Go back and read the sequence of posts. And you'll see exactly where I did it right under your nose as we exchanged posts. I predicted how you'd respond. And you responded as predicted. Oooh, what a mad genius I must be, right?

Better yet, don't bother. You still won't get it. You'll never get it.

So you keep bragging and we'll keep laughing. Mmkay?
