The Maury Spring/Summer League is at about the halfway point and here's a look at the Standings, plus a brief summary of this past Thursday's games in Norfolk...

Kecoughtan 48, Indian River 42: Despite trailing by five in the second half, the Kecoughtan Warriors settled in behind the play of 6-foot-3 wing Damian Knowlin (2016) and 6-foot-2 guard Taqwain Drummond (2017), who last season started as a freshman at Woodside. Knowlin scored 16 and Drummond added 14. Audwin Harris, a 6-foot-5 forward from the Class of 2016, showed some promise at times for Indian River, which dropped its fourth in a row since beating Great Bridge in their opener.

Maury 41, Bethel 32: Using a 7-0 run in the first half, the Bethel Bruins claimed a somewhat surprising 17-12 lead on the host Commodores from Maury. Six-foot-1 wing Jeremiah Owusu was the catalyst with his aggressive play, motor and attacking the backboards, while the likes of 6-foot-1 guard Cam Bacote (2017) and 6-foot-9 center Dajour Dickens (2017) made their presence felt as well. Dickens tallied a team-high 12 points. But Maury would turn up its defensive pressure and intensity in the second half, sparked by the duo of point guard Matt Coleman (2017) and wing Anthony Williams (2016). Making 9-of-11 from the foul line, Williams had 20 points, and Coleman finished with 15 on 7-of-9 at the charity stripe.

Deep Creek 46, Great Bridge 34: After building a 21-17 lead at the half, Deep Creek notched its second win by besting their Chesapeake rival, the Great Bridge Wildcats. The Hornets were led by athletic 6-foot-tall guard Jorge Concepcion (2015), one of their primary scorers from a season ago. Concepcion finished with 18 points and was complemented by Blake Aughtman's 13. Five-foot-8 guard Byron Nelson (2016) was the main source of offense for Great Bridge.

Updated Standings: (Entering 6/3/14)
Maury - 5-0
Kecoughtan - 4-1
Landstown - 4-1
Granby - 3-2
Bethel - 2-3
Deep Creek - 2-4
Indian River - 1-4
Great Bridge - 0-6

Matchup to See: Maury vs. Landstown (Tues. June 3rd) - Not only does this matchup feature perhaps the two best teams, but also arguably the two most sought after college prospects in the aforementioned Coleman and Eagles 6-foot-8 center Darius Bolstad, who currently holds offers from Radford and Saint Francis (PA).
