Damn man horrible news. It's been a pretty terrible day in the UK coaching world.
Shocking. Have to assume his health issues are a leading cause. Hope nothing but the best for him and family. He's done a great job here.

Wow this just sucks right when he has a team that we'll be able to really challenge for a lot this year. Prayers to him to have a long life to spend with his kids and family!
By his statement, he is having and will have long term complications from his fall and subsequent surgery. Just hope he can fully recover.
Word on Twitter is that his recovery form brain surgery has not been as successful as he had hoped.

Yes he had an injury. In March he was hiking and fell and hit his head, thought it was just a concussion. Then he had to have emergency surgery once they realized he cracked his skull and had bleeding on the brain. He needs time to hopefully fully recover. Brain injuries are unpredictable and can always have lasting effects
Wow I didn’t know about any of this. Hate to hear but hopefully long term health implications will be improved by him stepping away and he may even be able to come back in some capacity down the road.

Pardon my French but between this and Schlarman what a **** day.
He sure doesn’t need to travel or take a chance of getting the virus by being in public and around young people while recovering from brain surgery. Take time to recover.

Hate to hear it. Prayers to coach Mitchell and his family, he seems like a really good dude.
He was on a family vacation in Mexico. They were hiking and he fell, hitting a rock, causing a small skull fracture and concussion. In June it was discovered he was having bleeding on the brain and they did surgery to correct it. He is still having health issues from it and prefers to put his energy into his family. He'll be missed, he was great for UK.

This guy is the best ever. Look at what time and devotion he has put into this program! His dances and moves have been better than midnight madness mens and the blue & white game IMO. Just because of his talent and motivation and will to win and succeed. Many prayers to this man. He even just by himself has made this university a better place.
Coach Mitchell also donated a million dollars to the Town Branch Park and over a million back to UK. Super guy and coach. Good man.
This sucks I know some joke about not wanting to see his dance but I’d much rather sit thru him dancing for hours than hear this.

Bad news about Coach Mitchell. I certainly wish him well. He is easily our best women's coach ever.
Kyra Elzy has a great resume, hopefully she can have a successful tenure and remove the interim designation. She is a Kentucky native (Oldham Co.), played for Pat Summitt, good recruiter.

I went to school with Kyra and knew her well. Good girl and great resume. I’m excited for her.

Yeah, she broke my heart when she signed with UT. I thought she was the one recruit that could take UK women to the next level and possibly contend for a national championship.
Maybe she still can. Hope she wins and stays here for the rest of her career. Maybe the next Pat Summit.
