I don't think he's an A tier coach by any means. But the program is at least in better shape than it was under Frost.

If he really has 30 to 40 million to spend on a roster this off season and doesn't win 9 games next year, the man should find a new profession.

Well, there goes Rhule’s fall guy. Probably the OL coach next if Temu Mahomes leaves.

They really should consider firing Rhule himself, oh wait, they can’t afford to now.
We absolutely could afford to. But it would be stupid af. Much like the extension.

$71 MILLION to make Rhule go away?

Are they still paying Pelini Frost and the guy from the west coast any money?

For Gawd sakes get a real DC and OL/TE coach.

Fans have been calling for Raiola's firing pre-Rhule. The reason he was allowed to stick around are obvious.

Butler is already gone. Though I'm not sure why. 23rd ranked defense. 78th ranked offense. Not sure I'd start with the DC but that's just me...

I dunno man. Minnesota and Iowa imposed their will on that defense. Got pushed around in both of those games.

He schemed the entire season without anything resembling a nose guard. Pretty embarrassing how poor our talent was on the defensive interior.

So while I dont think his defense looked good, I wouldn't have started with him....

Say you go 7-5 next season. Is that good enough for Rhule to survive?

Braska probably gonna get wrecked in their bowl game. Make it a Mizzou v Braska old time game.

After a 5-1 start to their season, a 7-6 finish would be delightful. ;)

It really does make you wonder how serious Penn State was in Rhule when Little Debbie was sitting at 5-1. And if they were very interested, they must be quietly breathing a sigh of relief now.

Rumblings that Nebraska is going to target Seth Wallace for its next DC.

But then you also have to wonder how solid Rhule's job really is there. They go 7-5 there next year which may be the best they can do, will they do the buy out and toss him?

Price of poker is going up. LSU gave their new o- coordinator 3 yr 6 million. If nebby offers Wallace something close...hard to say no.

The arms race is insane.

Should they have kept Mike Riley? LOL

Nebraska's 2 wins vs ranked opponents were against #22 Oregon in 2016 and #7 Michigan State in 2015. Both wins are from the Mike Riley era.

Nebraska could be decent with a competent OL coach. Rhule kept Uncle Donny Raiola coaching O-Linemen from the Frost regime because his nephew was a 5* QB recruit. Their OL couldn't block five traffic cones.

Rhule put one player ahead of the team and the team suffered. That's not a ringing endorsement for the head coach.

After 3 seasons, Matt is 19-19 at Little Debbie.

The Huskers have a brutal schedule coming up, so year 4 doesn't look promising. Maybe in year 5 Matt will have it all figured out. ;)

Rhule's first 3 seasons at Little Debbie:
2023: 5-7
2024: 7-6
2025: 7-6

15 years in and Nebby still hasn’t learned in the Big 10 you need great line play to succeed. They’ve had some decent DL guys but OL they’ve never figured it out. They get all the shiny skill players (who most underachieve or leave) then wonder why they aren’t producing more Ws. With Raiola who I honestly think will be very good when he plays at Oregon with better staff and players. but against really good teams he struggled at times and most of time always outmatched in the trenches.

But it’s funny as you said Nebby did every thing imaginable to get Raiola and placate to him to make him happy with uncle as coach or get Holgerson as OC. Kid played at 4 different HS and decommitted from OSU and Georgia and Yet all their fans are shocked when leaves after 2 years.

What I love about Nebraska extending Matt Rhule is that his al time record against ranked teams is 2-22, with the only wins coming at Temple! Temple is also the only team with whom he had an overall winning record. He would have never gotten hired by Penn State, and Nebraska extended his contract anyway. It just warms the cockles.

His last win over a ranked team was in 2016. It's been ten years, he is due.

Regardless, he will proudly lead the big red to a gutsy 5-7 finish and get Nowledge U into one of the 52 (?) bowl games. Hope for Louisiana Tech in Shreveport, great exposure in a talent-rich recruiting area.

I saw on ESPN's web site that Raiola is no longer employed as Nebraska's OL coach. The nephew's transfer meant there was no longer a reason to keep him around.

Two seasons at Nebraska--that's twice as long as he's been anywhere.

Rhule fired OL coach Raiola shortly after QB Raiola left. There was no longer any reason to keep a below average OL coach on the staff.

If their new OL coach knows what he is doing it's a good thing for UN, whoever is starting at QB. A good line and position coach can really help an offense.
