Having that veteran team then adding Swanigen. No excuse for a first round flameout.

Both are still relatively young with maybe the best days of their career ahead of them...

Drew resurrected Baylor from the deep abyss...that program, institution, fan and alumni base owe him more than they'll ever be able to pay...what he did is essentially the equivalent of somebody bringing UK football to conference and national relevance...

Painter is a Boiler maker through and through...point guard for Keady and assistant under Keady...with the exception of few seasons he usually finishes top 5 or better in conference and wins 21 or more games...if they have a candidate locked in that is a for sure upgrade and who will win conference titles on the regular make a few deep tourney runs, then by all means...but I don't know that candidate is out there and if he is he probably isn't waiting in line for Purdue...

Matt Painter has been at Purdue now 12 years and his last 5 years he has 2 losses in 1st round, 2 no tourney's, and a 2nd round loss. In his 12 years at Purdue the only Sweet 16 was vs. Duke and loss in 2009-2010. I would say with this team and losing another 1st round game Purdue could look for a change either next year or year after.

He's not going anywhere for the time being. Purdue is searching for a new athletic director and as soon as one is hired, the first order of business will be to try to resurrect the football program with a change in coaches. Purdue's athletic budget is overtaxed right now due to the precipitous decline in football revenues. The president of the university, Mitch Daniels, is emphatic that the university will not assist the athletic department dig itself out of the hole. As disappointing as the basketball program has been, there are are other more pressing matters to take care of first, and damn little flexibility in the athletic budget with which to do it.
