As a whole I think the fanbase is done with Cal regardless how well this march goes. As Matt kept eluding too March is random. Getting on a hot streak like we did in 14 or getting a favorable bracket or the bracket falling apart in our favor is not going to undo what cal is doing to this program. We are 48-40 against P5 teams (and Gonzaga) in the past 3.5 years. Cal needs to go and I disagree with Matt, cal can be fired and needs to be.

He can be fired but the Richie riches have to pony up. They have to pay his buyout and the new coaches salary and I assume keep our NIL going strong and competitive. Because if the money isn't there we won't ever field a competitive team in this era.

You have to get the right coach that knows how to scout and build the right players though.

How can he be fired without a massive buyout?

Who are our NBA players Matt is talking about, other than Dilly. Would you waste a pick on anyone else? 1st or 2nd round
None of these guys are ready for nba but most of the team will leave anyways. This just isn’t sustainable anymore. People understood when Wall, Cousins, Davis, Towns, Fox and players of that caliber went pro but when you have guys like Edwards, Bradshaw, Skal, Boston, and so many more leaving after one year it makes this whole thing exhausting.

He was talking about other than DJ, so Reed is clearly one. Bradshaw and Edwards will play in the NBA. Reeves has a shot. I think Z will play in the NBA. Thiero is a maybe. UGO - I don’t know. He can rebound and protect the rim.

I for sure would use a late first on Reed if given the chance. I would draft Z, Edwards, Bradshaw somewhere in the second on potential. The others I would imagine would be camp invites.

Again, this is not counting DJ, who I would also use a second round pick on.

The money is there to fire him, and for what happens after. But the people with money are smart with their money. They are rich for a reason. They aren’t like me or you that would pay for a new coach. It's a financial formula to them. They won't act until the math works. Me and you would cut a check yesterday. But this is strictly business for those folks. Personally, I think we're stuck with him for another season. ...unless they work out a deal that is mutually beneficial.

He can’t but it can be negotiated. The buyout is paid annually, not in a lump sum. Barnart will have to reach out to his big donors for help. He got us in this mess with the ridiculous contract so he needs to help get us out. As Matt eluded too the longer cal stays the more miserable it’s going to be for everybody. Why go through 2-3 more years of misery. Do it now and get it over with and let this program get back to being UK again because right now it’s anything but.

He's gone on a few of these rants the last couple of years. Has made no difference.
Yep he’s in a position to start a movement instead of just bitching but he’s chicken to do it. Uk basketball needs a movement people need to get crazy or there will be no changes.

Listened to wlap this morning and the last half hr they a person who does nba and she was asked this question. She spoke highly of Rob and Reed, but she said she thinks they'll all declare instead of coming back. Spoke of the life in the gleague and how hard the life was. Said some would be better coming with NIL and how well UK players, but kids don't want that. Go figure.

The buyout isn’t so massive anymore especially after the season. I mean the dollar since Cals hire has devalued 20% and the buyout will be under 30 million. Major programs pay that in a heartbeat because not will cost us more in the long run. That’s why we need an AD now who is concerned about the long run. All these guys Barney, stoops cal care about is inflating their egos and pockets. If you ask any of them a 3-5 year plan on their program or athletics you won’t get it. Barney knows he should be gone; stoops tried to leave, and cal has no clue what’s going on. That is a massive problem to have.

There is no avenue to get enough money for the buyout. To say otherwise is simply stupid and ignoring the facts.

Also, if you think a coach is going to accept getting fired, leave money on the table and allow for anything other than a huge lump sum you are insane.

Reed isn’t leaving he’s a second round pick. Rob may be the only legit first rounder. This is kinda like the 2021 team. Mitchell is like sarr old but weak can’t defend or rebound, dj is like terrance clark with a bad ankle, edwards brandon Boston. Thank god we have some other guys like reeves and reed and Rob. And no askew

Cal won’t get a full buyout especially if he took another job. And there is plenty of money there to buy him out. If uk can afford 9 million a year the 30 million or so buyout after this season I mean come on dude. There is a ton of money in the bluegrass. We can pay 20 million + to the staff of bb and fb combined but can’t afford to buy out cal? No those are falsehoods. It’s about will you do it. Barney doesn’t even pressure cal. Cal would leave on his own if he felt the heat but as soon as the season is over he bounces for friendlier waters and avoids his boss at all costs. Stop with this argument from 2020-21. It’s 3 years later and 20 mil lighter on the buyout

Not terrible. He's right, on all of it. Explains the frustration and situation well. But, I think it lacked a little teeth. I know Matt is forced to walk a rope, but this was a prime opportunity to spit hot truthful fire.
He’s close. He let folks go off last night.

Cal won’t survive an early exit. Rupp will be empty and that will be a cue to get out. Mitch will be forced to do something. Whether that’s push Cal off the sidelines or start finding money.

Copied this from another thread:

If Kentucky wants to fire him without cause, the school is going to owe him 75% of what remains in base and supplemental pay. Here’s how that breaks down by year:

2023-24: $33,375,000
2024-25: $27,000,000
2025-26: $20,250,000
2026-27: $13,500,000
2027-28: $6,750,000

Negotiated buyouts happen all the damn time for a myriad of reasons. Sure cal can dig his heels in the sand here but this fanbase can make him wish he never came here. A narcissist like cal has to be revered not loathed. It would be an embarrassing end to his tenure here and possible career to. have the fanbase literally run him out of town.

The bracket f**kin COLLAPSED in 2018 and the idiot on our bench STILL got bounced by the damn Kansas State and Bruce Weber!
Oh trust me I know. Just saying if that were to happen again this year and gave us an easier path to the FF and we actually capitalized on it, that it should not give cal a pass for what he’s doing to this program.

I said basically the same thing in another thread. This team does not have dominating talent. It’s good talent and they should be better but the talent on this team isn’t overwhelming.

By him knowing he is no longer wanted here. Boo’d at home games, not being able to enjoy time out as fans let him know it’s time to go. No coach will like being boo’d at home but that alone game after game would probably be enough for cal to want to leave. As I stated he wants to be revered not loathed.
