It's still a bogus excuse for a governor supporting a corrupt athletics director. He lost Jefferson County close to 60-40 and it would have been worse if Jack Conway and family didn't try to railroad Hezzie Boone. A very small percentage of the state supports corrupt Tom Jurich.Bevin lost Jefferson County by 38,000 votes. For a republican, that's not "loosing badly". In fact, it's the best any republican (I, myself, am not a republican) has done there in decades, even better than Fletcher, who won the governorship. Remember, the vast majority of the state is rural or semi-rural. Those counties will go red and go red big. Bevin doesn't have to win Lexington and Louisville, he just needs to stay within 50,000 votes or so and he'll be fine. Of course, Bevin doesn't win anything if not for the utter failure of Obama to hold his party together. The former president may have racked up his own electoral victories, but his policies were the death knell to democrat governors and legislators across the country.
Per Clare Malone @ 538.com: "At the beginning of Obama’s term, Democrats controlled 59 percent of state legislatures, while now they control only 31 percent, the lowest percentage for the party since the turn of the 20th century. They held 29 governor’s offices and now have only 16, the party’s lowest number since 1920." Obama's personal appeal was good for him, but he fractured his constituency, most notably, rural blue-collar workers. In the wake of this new electoral map, Kentucky went from purple to blood red very quickly. When I look at the county map of Kentucky (outside of Jefferson and Fayette counties), I see an ocean of people who either love Trumpism, hate democrats, or both. Unless the Dem's run a classic Dixiecrat, someone who can reforge ties to rural voters, I don't see how they can win.
