LJS article regarding Doc:

"The Huskers had shown well in that department, ranking 40th nationally in 2020-21 in defensive efficiency." Doc was an assistant coach last year in charge of defense.

This year we were rated 179th per the article. Doc was not an assistant coach this year; it was Matt, Nate, and Armon. So....who was in charge of defense?

Smooth move....eliminate Doc's position to get rid of him. Fred needs to look in the mirror.

You've been wrong this whole thread. Doc was in fact on the bench and coaching IF you watched any of our games. Last year I don't think he travelled to away games because of his health concerns. He doesn't recruit but he sure as hell coached this year. Basically Doc had morphed in to a part time coach who wasn't an asset for recruiting. THAT is a losing proposition for a basketball program. Doc was on the verge of retiring when we re-hired him. He had made the comment that he wanted to coach a few more years and finish his career in Lincoln where he has owned a home since his days as a head coach here.

Fred and Doc are tight. This no doubt was a mutually arrived at conclusion that made the most sense for the program. I won't be surprised if Doc is still around the basketball offices in some capacity but we needed to move on to a younger assistant with some recruiting chops. I expect that he'll be on the cocktail party circuit in Lincoln this summer....

He also didn’t always travel with the team for away games this year . but he had this job title that I wasn’t aware of and had different responsibilities as a coach explains why not seeing him on the bench away from Lincoln..

So, was Doc let go, i.e. fired? If he was wanting to slow down, enjoy life, why not let him retire on his own terms?

Generally if someone wants to slow down and enjoy life, they no longer work full-time for a Power 5 basketball program. Seems like NU gave him that opportunity, without saying anything negative or taking the low road - if that's what Sadler wants to do.

Thinking Doc kept cashing those paychecks that Moos was willing to write. Trev came onboard, had to say “WTF” when looking at the financials as it related to Doc’s role and likely told FH to expect some changes. Wouldn’t surprise me though if we hear later he’s part of the NU Foundation fundraising team.

Then why does Matt Davison have a gig still haha.

Honestly, I would rather NU spend money instead of become tightwads and I hope that is not the direction they are going.

I have watched all the games. And yes, Doc does always sit on the bench. Per NCAA regulations there can only be 3 assistant coaches. Per NCAA, Doc was allowed to coach when Matt A was on leave. So if indeed Doc was coaching as an assistant coach as you are saying....we have been in violation of NCAA rules all year.

Doc has in fact been coaching all year and was coaching before Mattie A was on leave. I don't care what his title was. He might not have taken an active role during games before Matt was suspended, but he most definitely was on the bench and no doubt involved in the locker room.

IF he wasn't really coaching as you say, then what the hell does it matter if his position is eliminated? Answer: It doesn't so quit bitching about it.

I have nothing against Doc Sadler and I don't think he deserves to be shown the door any more than anyone else associated with the program. But apparently I missed whatever it was Doc accomplished in his coaching career that obligates Dear Ol' Nebraska U. or the sport of college basketball to provide him with lifetime employment.

Doc took a team of Billy Gillispie recruits to the NCAAs one year and the NIT the next, then cashed a Power 5 Lotto ticket to come to Nebraska. His tenure at NU can best be described as not terrible, with fans mostly looking forward to occasional visits to the NIT. Then it was on to Southern Miss, where in 5 years he finished higher than 9th place in Conference USA one time.

If NU draped proportional adulation on other former head coaches, the Huskers would play on Joe Cipriano Court, in an arena named the Danny Nee Dome, located on Moe Iba Drive.

Exactly correct about Doc but nobody will listen. He's made a great living being a good ole boy. I like Doc but he isn't owed anything by Nebraska.
