This may be an epidemic. Here's what Eric Decker at KSR had to say in response to Alabama's poor three point shooting:

Three is worth more than two. Therefore, using the power of basic math and global economics, you can deduce that you want to be hitting threes at a rate of at least 33% or it just mathematically doesn’t make sense to even be taking them.

Really? That might make sense if you are hitting 50% of your twos. But what if you can only hit 40% of your twos?

In all fairness, his entire article, even though it was attempting to say something nice about UK, didn't make sense.

Yeah, I think there are too many variables in basketball that it is impossible to use just math to determine if shooting 3's does or doesn't make sense. For example, shooting a 3 pulls the defense away from the basket unless it is Wheeler who is shooting it. LOL

Did anyone else notice Jimmy’s math when Oscar was shooting free throws?

Being as generous as possible to Jimmy, with a jump from 70% to 75%, it require 60 attempts per game for a player to score an extra 3 points per game.
At his current rate of attempts per game, a jump of 5% in his free throw shooting would actually result in only 0.23 additional points per game.

I get it that analysts aren’t expected to be masters of sports analytics or anything, but he should be embarrassed to be that bad at basic arithmetic in such a public forum.
Nobody told Jimmy there was going to be math...

I still saw some hate toward Jimmy last week when he had a play and got in trouble with allowed attempts. I understand him since my algebra problems with rational exponents and radicals are complicated enough for me to deal. My luck is that I found https://plainmath.net/secondary/algebra/algebra-ii/rational-exponents-and-radicals to get free solutions and help with my difficult exercises. I've got good experience with Plainmath, and so I recommend it.
