I don't understand this whole thing,
by now, at this point in time,
everybody in the United States of America,
from boston to la, and from seattle to key west,
and alaska - hawaii,
have been offered free covid shots.

so, either a person decided:
a. I will get the shot
or
b. I will not get the shot

so, why are masks even needed now that people have made their choice?
I don't understand why it's a problem anymore?
I'm not bitching, just curious why it's still an issue?

Because the Lincoln hospitals have been forced to delay non-emergency surgeries to accomodate the influx of COVID patients?

I will be at Devaney Friday night for the volleyball game and my mask will be doing what it did last year...

Keeping my chin warm.

Ummm, false. Define "everybody." Have you ever been to a Nebraska game and where you saw a person age 12 or under? BTW, I didn't read the updated policy above - don't care. But let's get your facts straight.

Those unmasked with Covid transmit to others that are not wearing masks. Mostly unvaxxed, with a fraction of vaxxed breakthrough cases, although the mRNA vaccines are holding up pretty much at their predicted levels. My experience at Memorial with the packed areas by concessions and next to and inside bathrooms is that the air gets pretty thick. Especially in the bathrooms.
Those who get infected get to see how their case works out. Good possibility of things being OK, small probability of severe infection and possible death. Nearly all of the infections are due to stupidity at this point, but UNL is not interested in the press that comes with holding a super spreader event in Memorial. I'd require vaccines, with suggested masking indoors and on the concourse. Case counts may be entering an exponential growth stage in NE, so things might yet change.
Also, I forgot to mention the young ones. I suppose they should be cheated out of a game experience because their elders refuse to place a barrier in front of their mouth and nose holes.

Explain how Israel has the highest vaccinated rate and is now ready to set records for hospitalizations... Haiti has the lowest vaccinated rate around 100,000 but has only around 550 total deaths since Jan 2020...

Requiting masks in the concourse, and then allowing people to yell and cheer in their seats, is going to solve this?

People 12 and under are not at risk from Covid. They are more likely to be struck by lightning at the game, then get seriously ill from Covid.

You realize Garth Brooks just played at a sold out Memorial Stadium correct? I was there, didn't see anyone wearing a mask...but by all means keep pushing your agenda.

are they hiring to meet this need? what steps are they taking to expand capacity?
also do insurance companies require people to get the shot or not be covered?

I was unaware of that, that's why I asked..what is the hold up there? where are these kids parents?
what is causing this delay?

60% of Israelis are fully vaxxed. The recalculation for herd immunity for Delta is 85-90%, much higher than the calculations for earlier strains. Immunity can be achieved through vaccination or naturally. One is free, the other may cost bucketloads of $$$ in hospitalization (north of 50K). No idea what is happening in Haiti wrt Covid.

Hawaii and Oregon have some of the highest vaccination rates, yet currently have a ton of active Covid cases.

I was wondering about this. Surely someone tracked the covid spread from this event. I guess the lack of news stories on it means there were no "super spreader" issues?

Case counts in NE have doubled since the Brooks concert. If the current trajectory of rise continues, attendance policies will likely change.

I would love for the sellout streak to end. It's embarrassing that a phony propped-up streak is our claim to fame for the recent past. I hope it ends so we can move past and talk about realistic seating capacity and improving fan experience.

I got the vaccine pretty early. I’ve always been pretty careful. My wife say I was born social distancing. Not a close talker or hugger. I just tested positive this afternoon. Knock on wood. Only mild symptoms with great pulse ox and no temp.

I just checked VB schedule because I thought it was supposed to be on BTN Saturday at 4. But BTN says classic FB.

Anyway, Tulsa must have issues because they're all cancelled

He also canceled his entire 2021 tour last week due to Covid concerns. So there’s that.

In theory the idea is to slow the spread of virus to people who for whatever reason either can NOT get the vaccine OR who may not be able to mount a robust immune response to vaccination. There are likely over a million people like that in this country. I guess the main reason is that there are millions of people out there who are in moderate to high risk categories that for whatever reason refuse to get vaccinated. Believe it or not, getting vaccinated reduces hospitalizations and deaths and recently hospital COVID wards have been filling up in some places. I heard Omaha was at capacity but have no idea if that is true.

I don’t know about Omaha and Lincoln, but I sit on the board as a volunteer of hospital here in KC and I can tell you this hospital is approaching capacity. As of yesterday ICU was at roughly 90% capacity. And staffing is stretched thin. That’s not from a news article, that’s direct from the CEO. He also said he has regular calls with CEOs from around the metro and most hospitals here are in the same boat. Over 90% of those in our hospital are unvaccinated.

The Chief Medical Officer from KU Med just this week on his daily media update said that KU is full. They have beds set up against the wall in the ER because they have no Beds in the hospital so ER patients that need to be admitted have to stay in the ER. Any new patients coming to the ER are placed on a bed against the wall and an EMT generally has to stay with that patient. He said it hasn’t had an impact yet, but if EMTs have to remain with patients in the hospital, at some point it will begin to effect 911 response times.

I believe as of now Omaha has a staff shortage, not a bed shortage.
