Penn State down by 30 at end of half to Maryland. David Coit has more points than PSU.

Diggy Coit is from Columbus NJ. Played 4 years at PDS before transferring to prep school in PA. His Division 1 offers were from Northern Illinois and NJIT.
30 points in 1st half. Good for him
Perhaps the giy recruiting for NJIT should be on staff..

Let me add this as I watched the last 10 mins. That kid was 1 point short of the scoring record with 4:30 left in the game. Record since 1976! 50 years! 44 points he had 43.. ( i think thats right)

He only took 1 shot rest of the game and Set his teammates up for shot after shot and celebrated like crazy everytime they made a 3. That is remarkable character you hardly ever see. He could have EASILY set the record if he wanted to. Wow. Thats a kid I'll root for regardless of anything.

I remember the game vs. NC State when Ernie Graham set that record (I'm pretty sure it was 1978). He was a good player, but not a great one. We (in the fanbase) have always been surprised at how that record has stood up for decades, considering all the great players who have come and gone since then.

When I saw that David Coit was at 43, with so much time remaining, I was certain that the record was going down, and I was happy for him, because it really was one of the most amazing single performances in school history.

It's been a dismal year for Maryland sports: football lousy, top quality soccer team choked, pedestrian field hockey season, men's basketball floundering with an all-new cast, women's basketball decimated by injuries, wrestling still not recovering from the loss of coach Pat Santoro to Lehigh fifteen or so years ago. At least we got to see one of our mercenaries be spectacular yesterday...

Looks like Willard got out while the getting was good.
Willard's sudden departure after a Sweet Sixteen season is actually the reason for the ugly season now being endured. The basketball culture at Maryland hasn't changed...

ETA: He had every right to move on, and I wish the man luck. But whatever the state of the program was at Maryland, he'd been paid millions of dollars over two seasons to get it there (and the program apparently provided the means for him to build a team that went deep into the NCAA tournament last March), so I'm not going to feel sorry for him.

And credit to PSU for absolutely blanketing him during those last few minutes. I'm not sure if they knew he was going for a record but they were determined to not let him have an easy basket. I'm not diminishing your point, but high character was displayed all around.
