With the head of their BOG resigning, I think the worst of this mess is over for them with the obvious exception of the financial settlement .
Why would they even consider replacing Canada at HC? All he did was keep the team together and win games. They will be bowling. He may not be a big name but he represents stability.
The idea of Schiano somehow being considered is ridiculous. Can you imagine the uproar from the fans if GS were announced. No way this program wants any more negative attention. Like it or not, GS is radioactive.
Hard to fathom that they appear to be in better shape than us going forward.

As yet another University System of Maryland leader lost his post Thursday, consequences of the turmoil that followed the death of football player Jordan McNair began to materialize: The flagship institution's main accreditation under scrutiny. Academic officials condemning a breakdown in integrity. A major donor withholding support.

Damage has been done, university leaders said. And they pointed most of the blame toward the system's board of regents, whose chairman, James Brady, stepped down Thursday.

A day earlier, Brady had defended the regents' decision to give football Coach DJ Durkin a second chance, despite McNair's death and a team culture that may have contributed to it. In the face of that decision, University of Maryland, College Park, President Wallace Loh announced he would retire in June.

"What right-minded, highly qualified candidate would choose to serve as the next president of the university?" Geoff J. Gonella, chairman of the University of Maryland College Park Foundation Board of Trustees, wrote in a letter. "How confident can the faculty feel about their academic freedom?"

To bring the coach back was dumb. They have lots of money so does RU.

This whole Rutgers has no money is a farce. Bring in a good coach and people will buy tickets.

It’s not rocket science.

I am sure it’s now one big happy team ready to put the past behind them.....

I'm not sure what to make of the fight. At the moment the version of events seems to be a "he said" / "they said" where "he" is the player who got beat up and "they" is pretty much everyone else who was there, including some players who were anti-Durkin.

Of course, that could change if other people who were there speak up.

Barber, of Mechanicsburg, Pa., said word had gotten around on the team that he was a “whistle-blower” who talked to investigators about problems on the team. When Durkin returned to practice Tuesday to watch the team practice, his supporters on the team felt emboldened and began taunting Barber, he said. Some mocked and insulted him, while others threw footballs at him, Barber said.

Toward the end of the practice, Barber said, Lees attacked him, attempting to punch him in the face. While the two teammates were fighting, others intervened, trying to break up the fight and grabbed Barber’s arms behind his back, he said. That allowed Lees to punch Barber repeatedly in the face, leaving him with a black eye, needing multiple stitches on his forehead and a dislocated shoulder, Barber said.

There's no way the coaches didn't see what was going on at the start of practice. They basically allowed this kid to get assaulted.

Why is Canada getting a pass. He was part of the staff. If GS is tied to Sandusky, then Canada is tie to Durkin. Where are the protest and uproar? Get over it.

Btw, Flood held the team together and won games too.

GS is NOT really tied to JS, we all know that, that was just made up by Tennessee fans who felt that he wasn't a big enough name to be their HC.

That being said, no AD in their right mind would ever try to hire GS as a HC again. Since they wouldn't want to risk a repeat of what happen down there. It would be a PR nightmare.

The ONLY school I can think of where the fans would be super happy to have him as a HC would be... here.

If Maryland is serious about going to bowl games and having a shot at winning the Big Ten championship some day, they can't pull a Flood, they need to hire a real HC that is NOT in anyway tied into that poor player's death.

RU's next HC can not be tarnished by some scandal (even implied) in any way. PERIOD.
