a cease and desist letter. "Coach thanks for the money and the good time in Oxford. I'm not dealing with any of this anymore. It's your problem now. All the love, Laremy."

I think anything over one year is enough for them to force their hand. In today's SEC climate, there is no way they can just hand the reins to an interim guy like Werner, etc. for 2 years when they are most likely going to be dealing with severe scholarship reductions at the same time. That would essentially be throwing in the towel for a good while. They will need a big name, elite guy to take over if a show cause hits Freeze just to keep the long term impact from completely destroying the program. And my guess would be that it will cost them a pretty penny. They could always hit the reset button by making an Orgeron type hire to navigate them out of the probation wilderness, but I don't think we'll be that lucky.

Who are they going to get that is better? They certainly aren't going to get a big name, elite guy to take over a team facing probation and significant scholarship reductions. They are either going to have to take a gamble on an up and comer by giving him a job that usually would be way beyond his resume (which is really they did with Freeze), or have an interim coach and wait for Freeze's show cause to end. I think they're going to ahve to go with option #1. An interim coach would kill them in recruiting and sticking with Freeze runs two major risks: (1) will the NCAA set up camp in Oxford when he gets back and what would penalties look like if UM got popped again after going back to a proven cheater, and (2) what will Freeze be like if he can't buy star players? I think Freeze is a good coach, but he has always had elite talent at a few positions that he could ride. What does his offense look like over a season without a Moncrief or Treadwell?

And I think the clincher is that if they go with an up and comer that flames out, they can still go back to Freeze. Give the new guy three to four years to sink or swim, hopefully get probation out of the way, and if it doesn't work it's unlikely Freeze will have worked himself into a position that quickly that UM can't poach him from.

"As the Head Coach I have to own those mistakes." Uh, coach, I don't think that phrase means what you think that it means. You can't claim to "own" the mistakes, and then blame the mistakes on other people, claim the mistakes weren't very serious, and ***** that people are holding you personally responsible for those mistakes.
