I hope he signs next week. After reading up on him I see he was also committed to Cal at one point and that’s really close to home.

I would bet we try to find a walk on dual threat too. It would be nice to have another freshman in the system for practice and competition. IF Lee leaves that leaves with only 3 scholarship QBs and one walk on. IF Lee stays we're probably okay.

We have one

This part I like:

2. Finding true dual-threat quarterbacks is very hard to do. Usually they are run first, pass second athletes or pocket passers that have above average mobility. Very rarely do you see a prospect that can do both as well as Martinez can. As a passer, he has efficient mechanics with a quick release which can be hard to come by from most dual-threat quarterbacks.

3. Martinez's arm strength is impressive. He can push the ball down the field vertically or throw an out route from the far hash with ease. He doesn't have a long wind-up or labor to put zip on his passes when throwing deep. He can make all the throws that will be required of him in Frost's offense.

4. Martinez is an extremely accurate passer. He shows the ability to make smart, quick decisions with the football. As a junior, he completed 220 of 366 attempts (60%) for 2,562 yards and 25 touchdowns to only four interceptions. He does a nice job of anticipating where his receivers will be and delivering the ball where only they can catch it.

5. Not only can Martinez deliver a nice, accurate pass from the pocket, but he can also do it while on the run. Having an offense that uses run-pass options becomes much more dangerous when the trigger-man can run, pass, and pass on the run.

The more I read about AMart, the more I get excited about our future.

Nebraska already has a dual threat walk on in Bunch. He's also a little better than the average walk on because he had Sun Belt offers out of high school, and went the JUCO route because he didn't want to spend 4 years playing for schools like Louisiana -Lafayette or Middle Tennessee.

I realize that and I've posted that several times over the past month. My point was that I think we need ANOTHER walk on for depth purposes. Especially IF Lee were to leave. IF we go to 140 guys on the roster we're going to need another QB just to give kids an opportunity to practice on offense. 140 kids with say 10 kids out with injuries still gives you >5 full units of players if you figure 22 guys per unit. Otherwise you're back to guys standing around watching. A walk on dual threat guy would cost us nothing in scholarships and might actually have a chance to develop in to a contributor.

There is no logical reason to add another walk on QB in this class.

IF you take Frost at his word and we run the roster to the size he's talking there's going to be 30 guys standing around watching. QB is one spot where if you have a rash of injuries you can't slide somebody over from another spot to make practice work. Again, IF Lee stays we're fine. IF Lee leaves we're short handed IMO. Who's going to be your scout team QB if Bunch gets hurt? Assuming Lee leaves which I think is likely, you're then putting one of your top 3 QBs at risk getting pummeled by our top units.

I don't know if your units would consist of just 22 guys. I would think you would have package substitutions and different combinations of your 2 deep that you would like to work on. However, I would think you would need a couple scout team QBs that probably would never even have the hope of sniffing the field as QBs. I have no insight on how you would actually run game week practices with this many units. Would it be something like 1st/2nd string offense against top scout team defense, 1st/2nd string defense against top scout team offense, 2nd/3rd string offense against second team scout defense, 2nd/3rd string defense against second team scout offense, and the offense and defense guys left against each other running Nebraska's offense and defense? That sure seems like a lot of work.

You would have to have GAs running the lower units mostly with coaches doing walk arounds. 140 guys with 10 sitting out with injuries leaves almost 6 units per side. So even at 5 units that leaves 20+ spots for kickers etc. I think they said Tom used to run 5 units at a time. Even running a practice with 130 guys seems almost impossible to me but that's what Frost said he wants. I hope he can make it work because it leads to development and finding contributors. When Callahan was short of WRs and had to actually look at walk ons he found Peterson. When we had the rash of injuries and guys actually got top unit reps at WR we found guys like Reilly.

Found this quote on a Tennessee board an chuckle out of it..lol

"Martinez was Frosted. Got to give him credit, as he jumped on him right out of the gate. Fact is, the QB pool is shallow and Nebraskuh had limited options. UT was running in circles at the time. By the time Pruitt was hired Frost already had Martinez blouse undone."

I'm starting to like this "Frosted" term..

The quote is a more than a bit homoerotic.
