I know he looks slower but he did run right around both Ohio st safeties (I think) on that long run. I'm going to pull up clips of his throwing from last year and compare because clearly something is not right there.

I don't think it has anything to do with his play this year. He needed to become more durable, so it has probably helped him thus far.

I believe that Verduzco has over coached him.

Martinez is also at a disadvantage due to our atrocious offensive line and the inability of our receivers to get open. Not to mention Juergens sends each snap to Mars.

If I were Frost and Verdu I would dial it back a bit on the mechanics and just have him play to his strengths. We’re demanding a lot from a true sophomore

I hope we have little expectations next year. I think his problem is in between his ears. The kid was on Heismen lists to start the year. We are a middle of the pack B1G team. We have identity issues on offense. Our coaches are still learning.

We invited a really good team to a prime time game. They came ready and whooped our ***.

There’s really little to analyze. They are much better than Nebraska. Give the team some time and support.

Martinez is working his tail off I believe. Most of his problems are caused by the offensive line and center snaps. First he has to contain those all over the place snaps from center, then he has to run for his life due to offensive line. When he hands off to the running backs, they can't even get to the line of scrimmage as the offensive linemen are coming backwards and the backs run into their own linemen. If Martinez can get just a few seconds he can his those receivers but not when he chasing a snap and running for his life.

Martinez is an elite physical athlete. The added weight has not changed that. Something is going on with his mental game.

Anyone who has played competitive sports knows that the mental aspect, especially confidence, is a critical part of performance. This is true at any level of competition. I was a track athlete in high school and noticed how confidence effected my performance so I can only imagine what effect confidence problems would have when you are at the most important position at highest level of college football.

Pressure to perform + lack of confidence = inconsistent performance. Fix that second variable and the performance on the field will improve. Of course, it would help immensely if the OL was better

A screen pass... You know, when your line is kinda crappy on purpose.... How about those passes? The three attempts I saw looked worse than Tommy Armstrong screen passes, and that's not good. Is it a practice thing? Or is it a scared thing? Or an overthinking thing? Some well executed screen passes would help out the average oline in my opinion.

Their D line was in his face so fast on that screen play that he had to dump it before Wandale was ready. Of course he's struggling. He's got almost no time to read the D after he catches the snap. Our center has destroyed his confidence in where the snap is going to be. Our O line can't sustain a pocket. What do we expect?

I am most critical of the errors when Martinez does have time and an open look. His throws on the move have been terrible. Too many miscues.
He’s still young, but he’s got to improve fast (and he can). OL progress will be slow and steady, except for snaps which need to improve by end of day today.

So it's a practice thing.... Not getting realistic looks in practice.

No. It's a game thing. IF you got that kind of pressure in practice it would really mess with a QB's confidence anyways. I don't care if you're Joe Montana. When you get that kind of pressure in a game, you're not going to play well. Couple that with WRs who couldn't get open and almost no running game and the QB has no chance. I'm laying that game last night at our O line's feet. Period. End of discussion. I was concerned about center and finding another guard way back last spring. It's not really their fault either. We're playing kids, yes kids, who shouldn't be starting yet. They're going to be good by the time they're upper classmen but man they aren't ready. Riley left us some gaping roster spots on the O line.

martinez is not going to turn into joe montana, he's 70's running ability and 30% passing. he can pass, probably better then frazier, and the same as gill.
we need to go back to running the ball, more pancakes , less pass blocking. wade as I-back, mills as full back, washington as wing back.
martinez takes the snap under center and the trajectory
of the snap has a lot less chance to go astray.

we torch them with the run, then the passes are there all day.

"when we passed with faragamo, we would score quick or go 3 and out..our defense was on the field all day, and oklahoma's wishbone would run all over us in the 4th quarter" - Dr. Tom, head coach, devany's OC, san francisco receiver

"3 things happen when you pass, 2 ain't good" - visionary bob devany on martinez's interceptions

"I couldn't pass like I did without creig and rathmen" - cool joe montana

Coach V "adjusted" his throwing motion in the off-season...seems that may have been a mistake

AMart is jittery from the high snap problem and has happy feet from the pourous line so that is in his head. This OLine was recruited for a pro-style offense and isn't athletic enough overall to run the Frost-spread (nice group of athletic OT in the last class plus Corc and Teddy P) to start changing that in the future

AMart doesn't trust throwing to any receivers---for the most part---expect JD, Wandale and MW (as a receiver) so he locks in with his eyes and forces throws into coverage just to try and target one of "his three" and no other receiver is stepping up, although I do think he could use Stoll more often
