For those of you that have divorced friends or are divorced yourself, are you happier, the same, or sad?

I have two friends that are divorced. One was totally fine with it, happy. The other tried to save it but his now ex was never gonna try and really, once you make up your mind, it is over. He is now very happy about being single but of course hates the custody issues where he only gets to see his kids every other weekend.

I'll just say that you misunderstand suburbs, disney land, fast food, pop music for social progress and "greatness". 1950-2050 will not be remembered for being a time of particular enlightenment and advancement, likely quite the contrary. I think you should start with the question of "Is America "Great"?". Was it ever "Great"? I mean people in Russia think Russia is great by the millions, in fact so great, that only Russia or Russia like things should exist. The great thing about our society is personal freedom, which in and of itself causes many problems like addiction, massive fatness, high crime, drug/sex trafficking, sexual depravity, environmental degradation, and ironically historically/globally high incarceration rates.
Yes, freedom causes problems like addiction, obesity, and sometimes crime and depravity. However, those problems exist in totalitarian societies along with other problems, most notably being genocide, mass murder, and lack of individual autonomy. Even though freedom might not create a perfect society, I prefer the problems associated with freedom than the problems associated with the lack thereof.

more arrogance and contrived humility. I'll pray for you as well. Not really. doesn't do anything.
Ha! Arrogance? Coming from a guy who is dismissive of other religions and peoples beliefs. Lost and lacking self awareness.

My opinion is just as valid as yours, not more, not less, but equal.

Or are you some kind of a reknown theologian?

You're not expressing your views, you are imposing your beliefs that not all would agree with.
Yes, everyone’s opinion matters. Imposing my beliefs by asking questions? How delicate are you?

Yes, I think this period was and is great. Look at the stuff people complain about. 99% of people in this country don't have real problems. Like "oh my God I'm so broke". While they have a $1,500 cellphone and drive a 2018 Suburban. Or "I hate living in suburbia because it has too many roundabouts and the 1,000 restaurants in town aren't good enough but I won't move because I have the world's greatest interest rate" (ha!).

Those are called American problems and IMO aren't real.

You are a complete tool. So disingenuous its sad.

I doubt you have enough enlightenment to be giving your opinion as facts.

This is an opinion forum.
That means people have a right to their opinions, rather you agree/disagree, or like/dislike their opinion.
What are you talking about? What are you throwing a hissy fit about? Do you know why you are upset? Try harder to have a fight about something. Maybe take the dog for a walk to clear the head. Or, maybe you need to express yourself Bob.

Dude, right?

For most Americans the "problems" they have are not problems at all. I always roll my eyes when weirdos talk about how they are going to leave the USA...no one leaves this country.

Right now the "I WILL NOT WORK FROM MY OFFICE" crowd is fantastic. I get it, I do, "working" from home is way better, easy, and convenient but you have people quitting jobs left and right because of having to go back to the office.

Re-read your responses to the man, you dumb arse. I don't get upset dealing with a twerp like you.

You're condescending to others, as if you hold some magical understanding of things that we could never comprehend.

The majority of your posts contain degrading and dismissing others opinions, then you end your post by posing a question, as if all you're doing is asking a question.

If you want to post as if you're Socrates, at least learn how it's done.

You're a joke, you need a different method of delivering your schtick.

Work from home sucks. It's good for when you can still work and have a sick kid watching TV or something like that. I would go crazy working from home full-time.

Well, geez Bob, I guess I just have a different opinion than you. You and he can go read your responses to see if you sound condescending. You don’t get upset dealing with twerps? You’ve been upset with me for a while, so you’re either a liar, or I’m not a twerp. Either way, you’re wrong, again. You might want to take a break, I am concerned for your blood pressure.

First of all, my name isn't Bob, so find a different strawman argument.
In the near 21 months I've been on this forum, all you do is try to exert your superiority on one topic or the other.

You're not as smart as you think you are.

Here you go with your disingenuous ******** about being concerned for my blood pressure. You're a total phony.

If you think I'm a liar, prove it.

You are the one being disingenuous when you say everyone is entitled to their opinion, and then fly off the handle when this guy gives his opinion.

Its classic.

“Your religion is bad and wrong. Im entitled to my opinion. I think you are wrong and in fantasy land.”

“Well this is what I believe and why. I dont think its fantasy land, its very real.”

“YoUrE fOrCiNg YoUr BeLiEfS oN mE!!!! StOp YoU jErK!!!!”

You said you don’t get upset dealing with me. Reread your posts. If you do, you will see how upset and angry that you are getting. So, when you say you don’t get upset with me, you are lying Bob. I am concerned about your blood pressure, because you are getting so worked up and you are old, which I don’t think is a good combo. Asking questions and having an opinion really shouldn’t be so hard for you to accept. You sound super judgmental in your posts by the way.

If I were upset, I would use a little bit more colorful language. Don't worry about my age or blood pressure because its none of your concern. My blood pressure is probably better than yours. One day you'll be old too, if you're lucky.

What makes you think you when you ask a question, people are obligated to answer?

You're a poster like everyone else.

They didn't expect Jesus to die so they had to interpret why he died. Paul concluded that it was for a ransom sacrifice. Like sacrificing animals but X1000. Thusly, if Jesus had to die, the Law was therefore inadequate. Paul's method of salvation was not the same as what Jesus taught, which was to love your neighbors and help out your fellow man and keep the principles of the Law, which he called doing the will of God. Jesus expected to become King of the coming Kingdom but was taken out due to being a threat to the Roman governance.
The law was always inadequate, it was a temporary and a renewing ceremony of forgiveness. Jesus's sacrifice was permanent.
Paul was a Pharisee, of course his thoughts of salvation were different than that of Jesus, then he was converted by Jesus...
The Romans crucified Jesus but was taken out by the Sanhidren...

I was more unproductive than ever when I "taught" from home.

It was nice to wake up and turn on my computer and pretend to teach to a bunch of students that were pretending to listen but man, it sucked.

there is significant research showing men get much more benefit from marriage than women

this thread is a good illustration as to why that is
Ha, what a load of ****. That research just shows that men marry and then get to work and bust *** climbing the ladder. Men would do that with or without marriage.

I doubt that it is, but I’m glad that it isn’t an issue for you.

You have some sort of narrative that you have created in your head. You seem to want to fabricate or talk into existence some set of facts that do not exist, maybe in an effort to try to start a fight? I don’t think people are obligated to answer, but they should answer, if they want to be taken seriously. It is a bad look when someone makes a claim or gives an opinion, is questioned on it, and then doesn’t respond, or responds with “you aren’t smart enough to understand.” But, that’s just my opinion.

Do you have some pent-up frustrations about other things going on in your life, that you need to pretend that there is some confrontation / conflict here, and keep going with this?

what really happened is that I said marriage has its purposes and others tied it to religion. I stated that religion made me a worse person but said if a religion worked for someone, that's great, but not all religions work for everyone. He then proceeded to get upset and demand what religion I was talking about. I gave him hints to as to not explicitly violate the rules of this board but he didn't like it or was unable to connect the dots. Hilarity ensued.

Lincoln, if you look at the history of this thread there have been multiple forum members that have differing views.
That's why subjective topics like politics or religion can never be fully, or sometimes even partially agreed on.

You and Red had multiple exchanges before I even made my first post referring to you when I said, "I think your rationale is flawed." That's because I tend to agree more with Red than I do you. The same as huskerfan tends to agree more with you than me. No big deal, differences of opinions. (I made other posts earlier in the thread, but they were mainly of the humorous type).

This thread has been in all different directions, with several people agreeing and disagreeing mixed in. If everyone was in agreement, then would be little reason to even express an opinion.

But did anyone think a thread on Marriage that evolved into a discussion of the religious aspect of marriage was going to be seamless? Not hardly. Some that are married have organized religion as an important aspect of marriage, while others are married and religion doesn't play nearly as large a role.

It is a topic that is ripe for disagreement. Right? Many of the posters are stating what they believe and not imposing views on others. Whereas, some of us, myself, you, Red have gotten a little more animated through the words of others. Many of the exchanges are very nice between two people, others not so much.

It's not a big deal, neither of us will change the others mind. That's how it should be.

The bible was about Israel, for Israel, and culminated in the 1st century with the judgement of that "wicked generation". They were to be delivered from the old covenant by having faith in Jesus of the coming new covenant. There was a grace period of 40 years from 30 CE to 70 CE where the Jews were to get right with god. It was never for us or people who weren't Jews.

Paul taught his salvation ideas after his conversion.
Every book and every page in the Bible (Bible is always capitalized) is about Jesus, not Israel. The OT foretells Jesus and the reason Jesus is necessary starting in Genesis. The NT tells the story of Jesus and why He had to die on the cross... The old covenant was sacrificing animals and grains to please God and had to be renewed once a year on . Jesus was the perfect blood sacrifice to make the temporary sacrifices permanent. Day of Atonement: After the cleansing, the live goat was brought to the high priest. Laying his hands on the scapegoat, the high priest was to “confess over it all the wickedness and rebellion of the Israelites – all their sins – and put them on the goat’s head. He shall send the goat away into the wilderness in the care of someone appointed for the task. The goat will carry on itself all their sins to a remote place; and the man shall release it in the wilderness” (vv. 21-22). Symbolically, the scapegoat took on the sins of the Israelites and removed them (v. 10). For Christians, this is a foreshadowing of Christ.

The Law was specifically for the Jews, it was how they were to live and how they were to worship YHWH. God specifically placed Israel where He did because all the trade routes of that time had to pass through that particular piece of land from Europe, Asia, and Africa. If Israel had done what was asked of them, they would have shown the known world of that time who YHWH was. There were many cultures living in that region that were similar to each other, God gave Israel to set them apart.
