Apparently the virus has spread so quickly through their clubhouse that they have cancelled their game tonight. Hopefully this isn't the end of baseball for the year.

Damn... that lasted a long a time...

I think this will prove the only model that will work is the bubble model that the NBA is doing.

This is why each MLB team should have a second roster ready to call up.

Unlike football, 14 days encompasses too many games to cancel/reschedule. Bring up the rookies, retest the negatives in a couple of days, and the ones that are still negative get on a plane and back in the game.

Minus the 2 teams at the beginning, it has worked for the MLS as well. They completed group stage and are in the round of 16 games now.

Uh oh. If we can't even play baseball without putting every player in the league in an isolated bubble, there's no way we can play football this year.

They have a 60 man player pool so I dont know why they arent using it unless they think they were exposed too

I don't know how they are handling the rosters, but they probably have to disinfect the clubhouse and everything, which means no one can be there for now (assuming this happened in Miami).

They were in Philly for their first 3 games.

The Phillies host the Yankees tonight.
The good news is that cleaning an area is quick, and I'd be shocked if it didn't take place as soon as the Marlins vacated the clubhouse yesterday. Then on top of that all the official guidance at this point says COVID doesn't transfer easily from surfaces.

Now, will the dramatic people of the world see things that way...I'm skeptical.

Yeah, not to make light of the Marlins’ situation, but everyone knew this was going to happen at some point. The critical thing right now is the response

I’ll be real interested to see the contact tracing details, though. On one hand, we’re talking about a team from Florida, so a player could’ve feasibly picked it up from pretty much anywhere. On the other hand, my hunch is that someone did something stupid

Michigan State has suspended all football activity for two weeks due to a staffer testing positive.

Did I see on EPSN this morning where the players didn't even fly back home in an effort to keep from infecting family? I don't see how this season continues with that going on.

Yeah this was bound to happen but I don't think anybody thought it would happen so quickly. It will be interesting to see if they are able to trace what happened. The Marlins are a very, very young team so it's probably not totally surprising if a group of them did something stupid.

But that's going to hold true for college as well. I want the season to happen but I just don't see it happening.

Totally irrelevant question, but are any of them SICK? If not call up the boys from Triple A and after testing them proceed. The folks that test positive need two negative tests before they return. If several of the players get sick, then MLB should go into full freak out, not now.

It's gonna be hard to top the stupidity of LA Clippers player Lou Williams. Got a waiver to leave the NBA bubble to go to the funeral of a family friend, then got photographed at a strip club.

I’m skeptical the bubble will actually work. They’ve already busted players leaving the bubble to meet food delivery drivers. You know it’s just a matter of time before girlfriends or wives are sneaking in...

Exactally, bring the players up and play ball.

What happens here will be a good measure of how the NHL, NBA, and NFL will handle going COVID-19 forward. If this happens in CFB, bye bye season.

He was just getting his favorite meal.

But Camp Shelby Dog Guaranteed we would have college football...
I believe I’ve read numerous threads here that state that the virus deal is way over blown. If it is so over blown why don’t they just grit it out and play ball. No need to stop sports over a nothing virus.****

It's like the flu. It's totally normal to have 14 players get the flu at the same time during the season***
